Laugh Out Loud.
ROFL is Rollong On The Floor Laughing, and LMAO is Laughing My Ass Off. ROFL & LMAO is often combined into the more powerful ROFLMAO.
There you go Carl, one quick acronym lesson.

Don't feel bad Carl. Although I can translate most acronyms, until recently I thought =D meant equals dumb instead of a smiley.

When I was a nurse and we were trying to chart after an especially difficult time, we very often would WAG things like vital signs, especially if we taken several over a short period of time and only remembered roughly what they were. We used WAGPOOMA or just a simple WAG instead of SWAGPOOYA (not in the chart, just in conversation).
I used to joke that I got into nursing because I always really wanted to be a fiction writer and that was my chance. I got out of nursing because I wanted to make more money.

T.A., the first time I head this phrase used was by an instructor in a military course that I eventually flunked. (I was one of the 65%...)
Along with needing copious quantities of magick to work, it also refers to something that is "too difficult to explain to someone like you" or so he said. It was one of those "it works, trust me, don't ask how" sort of things!

Re: WWII Forums Lingo
I picked up the PFM one in the military too. Another one from my Navy days was MFNP accompanied by a cyclops smiley face. This was for Mutants For Nuclear Power back when I was on the 'prise or, as it was later nicknamed "The Mobile Chernoybl."

Where I work, we have users who commit "eye-dee-ten-tee" errors with their PCs.
Written out, it is ID10T errors.

Re: WWII Forums Lingo
How about adding "RTF" to the lingo list. It stands for "report to follow" in official usage to document specific activity. Here in the forums it could be for a short narrative for a book or a movie. Some other possible lingo items are as follows;
AAR - after action report
For a book or movie, museum visit or flaming a troll.
NTI - nothing to it
A book or a movie was reviewed and it was a BOMB.
NAT - neccessary action taken
Could have mutiple usages, moderator action for example.
I will add more as I remember them.

Re: WWII Forums Lingo
I think we badly need to update the venerable RTFM (that was the bane of programmers forums when we still had hardcopy documentation) with something like TGF! (Try Google First!) so as to have a quick, standard, and not too impolite answer for the "was Hitler German?" sort of posts. We may actually hold a competition for the best acronym.
IMO this should be reseved for people who have at least 10 posts to their credit, after all what may look obvious to a veteran may not be to an aspiring recruit so he/she should get a second chance but thats'a a personal opinion.
