Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
The Partiarch is a grofaz? How dare you Skipper! There is only one grofaz here and that's Otto! I sure hope der panzerPenguin doesn't get wind of this!
Seriously though thanks for the suggestions. I'm just looking for a few specific names for some of the posting accomplishments that some of our more active members have reached.
I like the term Experten for the 5,000 posts mark. It takes literally years to get to that point, so I think the Experten/Ace title is fitting. Now I just need some fitting name to apply to the Rogues who have hit 1,000 posts and I haven't yet seen anything that I really like. I've got a few positive reputation points for the Rogue who can give me a title for the members of the 1,000 posts club.

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
I should have know that there is only one Grofaz on earth.
I've been thinking about a few new terms (they were not used and some are my invention , but could have been because they sound quite realistic).
Stosskämpfer : fighter that really goes for it (allusion to those who get involved in the forum)
Stosskrieger : warior with guts (allusion to the members who put their pictures )
Kernntrupper : elite (forum) member, same roots as hardcore.
Scharfschütze : elite and specialized soldier=sniper. (Allusion to a specialised and experienced forum member)
Berufsoffizier: professionnal officer ( allusion to the permanent and long term commitment)

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
Thanks Skipper, I really like those, but I'm looking for something a little more general and maybe not German, since we are already using the term Experten. If we had a term that somehow referenced the value of 1,000 in the same way centurion refernces 100, that would be perfect.
Right now I'll give the terms as I have them so far. We will need to come up with specific terms before we place them permanently into the Code of Conduct.
Rogue - any WWII Forums member. As soon as you register, you become a "rogue"
??? - 1,000 posts (name yet to be decided)
Ace - 5,000 posts
Expert (aka 10K Elite) - 10,000 posts *
*Thanks to Skipper67 for the Experten suggestion at 10,000 posts this fit in perfectly with Ace at 5,000 posts.
So, we still need a good WWII or military term for a member who hits 1,000 posts. Anyone who comes up with a term I like will get some shiny new reputation points from me, and you will put yourself in good stead with der PanzerPenguin. I think I can also convince our stingy Gröfaz Otto to cough up some reputation points too. There are lots of good terms here so far, keep them coming!
Peppy >>> wants a better term than "millenion"

Reason: corrected Expert from Experten, (thanks Skipper67!)

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
Got the message Peppy, one precision: Expert is the singular Experten the plural so the name should be Expert with a capital "E" as in all German names.
I'll come up with a name that will refer to a Millenium post member later today.
No German term ,not the term Millemium : uhm I'll have to think hard.

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
It took me a while, but I have three new equivalents that could fit our 1000 posts members. My defintion of these members would be related to a special elite section of an army such as an imperial guard. I therefore looked among roman ranks and found the name of "Tribune". A Tribune is the leader of an entire legion and is therfore above the Centurion. Then I proceeded and looked into Byzance. I came up with two other ranks: a "Tumark" who is the leader of a Turn (Byzantinian Legion) and check this one out: a "Protospatharian" who is a superior elite officer of the Byzantinian Imperial guard.

Too complicated, nobody can pronouce that. How about Big Cheese, Great Spirit or Gangabwana to keep it multicultural?

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
I kind of like the ubique aspect of it though, but I can understand.
The term has to be something special related to the Rogue galery and to 1000 posts. Not anybody can have that, so a too general term won't do either.
There is only one Great Spirit, for instance. I'll try to find something in between. Tribune is pretty known, Tribunes are the leaders of Roman Legions.

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
Come on guys, it's got to be something noble and proud, like an Elite order not a dog kennel. And remember not a German name and not a name that nobody can pronounce either. What about "Pretorian" or "Pretorian Guard"? I like tha tone ther eis something noble , universal and grand there !

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
This guy was certainly proud to be called a Dogface:
I Wouldn't Give A Bean
To Be A Fancy Pants Marine,
I'd rather Be A Dogface Soldier Like I Am.
I Wouldn't Trade My Old O.D.'s
For All The Navy's Dungarees
For I'm The Walking Pride Of Uncle Sam;
On All The Posters That I Read It Says
Be All That You Can
So They're Tearing Me Down To Build Me Over Again
I'm Just A Dogface Soldier
With A Rifle On My Shoulder
And I Eat Raw Meat For Breakfast Everyday.
So Feed Me Ammunition,
Keep Me In The Third Division,
Your Dogfaced Soldiers A-Okay.

It's actually a song Skipper. You can listen to a version of it here if you would like: http://avconvert.com/time/060218/mar...face060219.mp3
Yes sir Skipper, I see the French Croix de Guerre, the French Legion of Honor, and the French Fourragere.

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
Excellent song, thank you for reminding me the glorious days of the "Rock the Marne guys" and say hello to Fort Stewart. The closest equivalent we have is "Poilu" (the hairy ones in the trenches)

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
I'll stick to "Pretorian Guard" for the moment , something Imperial there and they were the best fighters you could imagine.

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
I know I'm being picky (sorry Skipper! ), but I want something that's sort of general for a Rogue breaking the 1,000 post barrier. Many of the terms that have been proposed are specific units of pre 20th century armies.
Ideally I'd love a term with the same feel as "ace" but maybe not as significant. Is there another term for multiple accomplishments/kills/sorties that we can use here? I'll even settle for a german one, we just need a good one. I also rather not have the term 'bastard' in the title.
This is especially important for you Skipper67, since as of this post you are only two post away from 1,000!

Re: General Forum Info/Ideas
Umm, only two posts away, that's one now and I'm sure I'll find another one to post within a few moments. I'll come up wit a more general term later. Pretorian guard stems from the antique period but is used throughout the centuries up to nowadays . This is how Saddam called his imperial guard for instance. But I'll keep thinking. Get ready for the 1000 candle cake.
