Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide
Yeah, the feather isn't the one, but I'm accepting suggestions for something to symbolize the negative rep, anyone?

All are good, but there is one major problem that we face. The image needs to be the same size as this: and it's going to be very tough to have any image with any real detail in these tiny dimensions. It's really not that important though, as members with negative rep don't seems to last very long. You Rogues tend to be tough on those who make asses of themselves.

The plus minus system fits me too, or a smiley face with a WWII helmet.

Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide
Well, we now have an appropriate symbol for a negative rep. A small, burning flame:
It seems fitting to me. And quite clear to both the giver and the givee that they have been "flamed".

Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide
Dear Otto
Way back on this thread you said "I'm not exactly sure why no one has respoded to this post, not that anyone has to. All are welcome to respond to this post if you like... "
I hope that I am not being "mealy mouthed" by making what might be considered an adverse comment with regard to the whole system of awarding "reputation" points.
On using the "UserCP" option I can easily see that various over generous members have made comment on the odd posting that I have made and it set me wondering why I hadn't reciprocated in the same manner with regard to other members articles.
The answer was not hard to find.... I realised that I have always tried to make a point of responding positively to postings that I consider have raised valid arguments and, at the same time, I have always thanked the writer involved.
This "thankyou" has therefore been made publicly and lets no one be in doubt as to my views on the subject.
This public exchange of views is the very essence of all forums and I honestly believe that the "reputation" system detracts rather than adds to the value of the site by removing comment from the thread itself.
Having said all that I still give you (publicly, you note !) 100 marks out of 100 both for your enthusiasm and efforts in making this (with the help of your team) the bloody fine website that it is.
Regards
Ron

Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide
"mealy mouthed"? not at all Ron, you have earned the right to speak your piece more than almost anyone else here my friend. Thanks so much for your feedback!
The reputation system was never intended to replace the existing friendly discourse between forum members, it was only meant to be another way that a given member could show thanks to another for their input. As a matter of fact, no single member need even participate in this system at all, as we all have the option to turn it off if we so desire.
Ron, I completely agree with you that nothing is a better thank-you than a follow-up post, and I would hope that every member would use this as their primary method to show thanks in a discussion. I do feel however, that the reputation system is another good, and yes public way to indicate thanks, since reputation points will accumulate, showing how helpful a members has been over time. It is certainly a more public thank you than a Private Message or an email.
In short, anyone can use the reputation system or any other system, or not, but respect and thanks will still be exchanged and earned the old fashion way, but giving and showing respect to one another in each member's own individual way.
I will concede to you that the reputation system is flawed, as there is no number of reputation points that will ever amount to the respect & thanks that I and most every other member here has for you.
Cheers Ron,
~Otto

Re: Reputation/Prestige System Guide
May I make a suggestion? Yes? Thank you
In the Members' List we see info on user name, join date, posts, last visit and avatar.
It might be useful if we could also see total reputation points and age.
Thanks for the applause, now off the rostrum and exit pursued by a bear.

On some profiles I can already see birthdates and ages . I think you have the choice to enable being able to see it when you create or modify your profile.

You can modify your profile anytime to make your b'day and age visible to the membership.

I know I did when I first registered . Funny how some appear to not want to do that. But then again I have no problem with people knowing my age .
