I didn't name the medals, but I got the dog on the right scent.

It (the award) appears to be a mixture of two Soviet awards. The ribbon is for the "Order of Glory" and all classes (1st, 2nd & 3rd) had the same ribbon. The ribbon is black and red stripes-black-red-black-red and black.
The red enameled Star is indeed the: "Order of the Red Star" which is a pinback award or one that is also a screw-back award-meaning that this award did not have a ribbon that it hung from and pin or screwback is how the item is attached to the tunic.
So, the "award" is an "Order of the Red Star" with an "Order of Glory" ribbon attached to it.
The "arms" of the Order of the Red Star is enamelled, the center I think comes only in silver and it shows a soldier in greatcoat, standing in a defensive position facing right and is holding his rifle "at the ready."
The Order of Glory, is the award with the black on Red on Black on Red and on Black striped ribbon, the stars "arms" are NOT enameled, a circle is in the middle of the star and contains a wreath and in its center shows the main entranceway to the Kremlin. On the very bottom and inside of the circle, shows I think 5 letters in Cyrillic, and that part does have red enamelling. Apparently all three classes of this award DO have the red enamelling over the cyrillic letters at the bottom of the award. The 1st class is gold in color, 2nd class is silver star but center is gold in color and the 3rd class is only silver in color.
So please bear with me on these if im later proven wrong as Soviet/Russian awards are not my forte-as the German stuff is. However, I am 99% sure that all the above info is correct. ;-)0
WHEW, that was sure tiring to type! ;-))
Well, apparently as I was typing this in, Erich found a great photo of an Order of Glory 1st class. Apparently the first class is Golden with the red enamel over the letters, the 2nd class apparently then is silver with red enamel over the latters and the 3rd class is only silver with red enamel over the letters.
Anyway, Erich, thanks for posting a pic of that award. Now if you have anytime for posting a nice example of an: Order of the Red Star ;-))
It may sound like im repeating myself from above but, all I did was to correct the typed info with the correct info instead of deleting it.

That ribbon comes from the old Order of St. George from Czarist times, instituted in the 17th Cent. It was used as well in the Victory over Germany and Capture of Berlin and other anniversary medals. This orange-black combination was also present for instance in the chenilles of Cuirassier helmets of the Napoleonic period.
Respectively:

Ehhh, in the last image, rather grey and black...
Lots of tradition, eh?

Carl, bad news for you! I tried that excuse before and it didn't work! I also tried the "It wasn't me" and "The devil made me do it" and the "Temporary insanity" excuses and neither worked, so be careful

Re: Them fancy medals adorning our posts
Couldn't we start using campaign medals once we run out of normal ones, medals that are awarded to soldiers who participated in a certain campaign.

Hi Miguel, you'll have to excuse me, I did not have time yesterday to reply to ya as my ride home came 1/2 hr earlier than supposed to.
Anyway, thanks on the rundown of an award I never heard of before ;-)) And lots of tradition--yes-in order to bolster patriotism ;-))

Ah, yes, this orange and black motif is still used nowadays. Continuity, I suppose.
