Editing Time, New Forum Subheading Suggestion, etc.
Otto: (Commander in Chief)
See: WWII Forums User Guide - Version 1.1
1. re: lobbing for the need to eliminate or dramatically extend the Edit Button "Time Limited" period permitted. Also my quesetion re: Is it possible to increase the "Posting text" box size?
2. See: places to see??
Re: I think we should lobby Otto (webmaster) to create a new:
"WWII Activities and Hobbies" "Forum" Subheading, Titled:
Forum-Member's Group Holiday Plans / Places to Visit.
It might be nice to organize one or more annual holidays - the focus being on one (+) of the interest areas under discussion here on http://www.ww2f.com/ Then perhaps the next year's holiday could focus on another interest area and/or location... and so forth and so on. An annual event to look forward to.
Thus people who are rapidly becoming fast friends here on this forum could plan opportunities to meet in person. Might be fun, albeit an intense history lesson session, (and emotional for some) especially if some of the real experts we have acquired here join in.
I'm already wondering what dates bigfun might have in mind for 2009 (see his "Places to See" link above) and very well might join him.

Thanks for religeously unsubscribing the nut cases and their posts. One big reason why I am here. Keep up the good work!
PS:
The PM bug is fixed - received one today. (They were deleting before I could read them. ) Thanks again!

Re: Editin Time, new forum subheading suggestion etc
You are spot on Fred and I received your email on the subject as well. I'm a bit tied up these days, but I will address these issues as soon as
I get a few minutes to rub together.

Pay him no attention, Fred, he still owes me a long email
You'd think he had a full plate.

We could also have a Members' Favourite* Links section, preferably duly organised, not like my Favourites
* with an 'u'

Yes, a very good idea, but one best placed on the parent home page to ww2f.com: WWII Network | Gateway To the Second World War
Here it would be relatively easy to set up topic organized links pages. But it would have to be one wherein command and control stays with Otto solely. Ie: not member modifiable.
NOTE:
There are many members on this forum best described as "experts" in their interest area(s.) This, combined with their command of foreign languages means that suberb sites are routinely linked to in topics under discussion that the average "mortal" would never in a million years likely find.
Thus a high end, screened (and updated) series of specality links pages would be an enormous draw to prospective members, not to mention being a tremendous resource for the general public.
Good idea. Nicely done. Hope its implemented. Expert forum members would help, of that I am sure.
I am already writing a "wish list" for category headings.

Re: Editin Time, new forum subheading suggestion etc
I've now changed the post edit window to 90 days, you Rogues can now go in and edit posts that need to be updated,. After 3 months, the edit function is closed, this is to ensure the results that the search function delivers is consistent.
