World War 2 Talk
I've been a member at this forum for only a few months and recently found the other WW2 Talk forum. It seems that many forum members are regular posters at both message boards. Is there a reason that the two are not combined?

Re: World War 2 Talk
Otto bought it back in August after a troubled life of sale & resale.
Sometimes I think the two should be combined but at other times each site has it's own strengths & weaknesses.
I also post alot more there as I feel it is my internet home and can't get into this place in the same way.
Too many bloody "what if .." threads for me.
Cheers

Sometimes I do wonder.
However, an intention when Otto rescued WW2t was to retain the boards 'flavour' as more of a British & commonwealth oriented site, we didn't feel it right to amalgamate them as each has it's distinct 'feel' which could be seriously compromised or even lost if it were all heaped into one rather large forum.
I've posted on both since Za invited me over here, and long before Otto became the joint owner. One feels more like a British pub full of WW2 obsessives and the other a slightly more International style Bar. There could be a bit of a culture clash if you combined those two. (as illustrated by 'The Immoderator' above )
Otto rescued WW2t from a somewhat turbulent time of stability of ownership and very kindly wanted us to hang onto our own distinct 'identity'. I'll never say never, as one thing I've learnt since taking on admin responsibilities there is just how fluid a boards 'vibe' can be but I would say that there is no real likelihood of the boards merging, and such a move could only be instigated by the overriding approval of each's membership.
Having said that, I quite like the friendly & quite low key cooperation between the two, everyone's obviously entitled to belong to either or both, and choose which they mostly post on, those that use both (myself included) seem to find it quite nice to have a little fence to peep over and find different nuggets of interest to comment on within differing contexts. Variety being a spice of life .
Vive la difference.
Cheers,
Adam

Re: World War 2 Talk
Thanks for the replies and a bit of the history. I like the vibe on both boards (guess because I am half-Yank and half-Brit...:-).

Re: World War 2 Talk
WW2talk is another fine forum, with a distinct character from this one. It would be a bit of a shake to merge both, I don't see much of a benefit.

Re: World War 2 Talk
No No No, don't combine them. They are different and have different focuses...foci...focus..fo...oh what the heck, you know what I mean.
After all, we have enough Limeys here as it is, do we really need that whole passle of ne'er-do-wells concentrating their efforts in one forum, combined with this one? Yikes!
Perish the thought.!

Re: World War 2 Talk
On the surface they are both similar ww2 discussion boards, but they are quite different, and I feel these differences are both quite important and worth protecting. As Von Poop said, you can never say never, but I stated repeatedly that I'm going to keep them separate and I'm going to stick to that. I have also attempted to keep the cultures different, such as not allowing anyone to serve as a moderator on both websites, and trying as much as possible to keep my nose out of things over there. I do have admin status at ww2talk, but I'm not the acting admin and I'd even say the moderators there have a much greater influence on things than I do.
The mods & admin over at ww2talk have done an incredible job helping the site recover from the previous multiple ownerships and taken it to a new level of quality, not to mention the site is 4 times as busy as it used to be!
Merging would be easier, less hassle and cheaper, but that's not what any of this is about to me.
Vive la difference indeed.

Re: World War 2 Talk
I would state that both websites make contributions in their own way and whilst the initial subject is the same, the sites come at it from a different approach. This is a good thing. I choose to remain over at the neighbour's but I still enjoy toddling over here and having a rummage around.
Need to get here more often!!

Re: World War 2 Talk
Well, yes that's why I am still hesitating, because I'd spend a lot of time posting instead of doing other things.

I would post my photos of my recent trip to the Ardennes on this site but I've already done it on the other site, I don't want to repeat it all here, sorry.

Re: World War 2 Talk
I lurk about at the two OttoForums, a general world naval forum, city-data.com (Alabama section) and a sports forum. I've joined two other WWII forums in the past, but have never posted at either one. I also joined an automotive forum last year at the request of a member at WW2talk to try to help deal with a vile anti-semite (is there any other kind?) there that the administration of that site would not shut up. My main interests and 99% of my posts are here and less so at ww2talk, where I do a lot of reading.

Re: World War 2 Talk
I've belonged to a few before and used to post alot on just one until I had had enough of the constant deletion of threads and posts by nameless invisible Mods. And also especially because of the actions of a certain poster there. I like it here much better since I found it on a search if you all haven't noticed LOL .
