Thumbs down Re: Do you like the What IF section?

I take the point, and will never look at the 'What If?' section again. Ever.

Never again will I have to stretch my mind to realise that the RAF didn't really win the Battle of Britain - they came close to being beaten by Soviet pilots using Me 262s, that Hitler was just an all-round regular guy condemned to be misunderstood by history and that WWII could have been won by the 7th Cavalry - if only they'd been armed with MP44s.....and yes, Operation Sealion could indeed have worked if the Kriegsmarine had used nuclear submarines to follow-up the barrage of tactical-nuke-headed V-2s.....

Im being very political but, I can take it or leave it. Truthfully, I have not "stepped foot" in there in years. I like the idea of having a historical discussion that should only be taken with a Levity Pill.

In other words, im 50/50 about it-or like all of our Presidential Cnadidates are on most issues. When they are asked a simple question, they talk out of both sides of their mouths at the same time.

Also, I never have the time to venture into "the Twilight Zone."

Whenever I click on the What If... section, this song begins to play in the background:

"Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
The place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far."

The more recent alternate history scenarios are indded quite interesting, and as a wargamer I can't really write them off as wargames are whatifs.

However I get tired by the 'more of the same' scenarious where once again the Germans win WW2 vicariously in the mind of the writer, through the intervention of some deus ex machina or some unlikely pre-condition. I'm sorry if I lose my composure and blow my top, but sometimes there are statements so blatantly ignorant that I can't pretend I didn't see anything. Mind you, nothing against Germans, rather against German Wannabees

I very much prefer What Was to What Wasn't.

based on the poll results it appears that the forum is pretty much equally divided on the subject

I rarely read most of the What Ifs, but some do occasionally catch my eye, specifically the ones I mentioned above. And since Otto asked me to moderate, I do look over all of them to make sure they aren't getting out of hand, fighting and what-not
