Hello Gents,
It may not be WW2 anymore...................but I'll be dammed if that's not a russian T-34 tank in ................well i guess you can call it winter camouflage!
It's actually in an old housing estate, somewhere in eastern europe - soviet leftover...........now part of " art " .

Re: "Russian Tank Camouflage in Winter"
Hello JC,
Quick question.....having read/looked above.
Would the german's have used the same types of camouflage as the russian's...........ie (white-wash or paint when available) ?
If so, would they have applied it in the same manner as the russians (in most cases just covering the tank/truck - no real pattern.
........or perhaps were they more strict, with (for example) regulations on how it is to be applied, patterns etc...
It's just that I have this idea/image in my head of the russians - rushing all the time (to get their tanks manufactured, painted etc) where as the germans seem to have more attention to detail....get things looking right etc
(also considering what's written on paper 'as the proper way to do it' and then actually carring it out on the field of combat)
what do you think?
Regards,
AndyPants

Re: "Russian Tank Camouflage in Winter"
In regards to using white paint or whitewash it was pretty much the same for the Allies as it was for the Axis. Depending on how much time the troops had in the field it was either haphazardly done or completely covering the vehicle. With more time sometimes in a more intricate pattern. The equipment usesd to apply the paint or whitewash also determined what type of pattern they would use. Anything from brushes, hands and mops to spray painting.

Re: "Russian Tank Camouflage in Winter"
From most of the photos I have seen so far the use of a white type camo scheme was not as numerous.
