A poster showing the Richthoffen brothers in flight gear next to an aircraft.
To General Heinrici's disgust, the leaders of the various military branches tried to outbid eachother, in the name of sending reinforcements to the defense of the Oder-Berlin Sector.
Name the three leaders
Name their military branches
and how many men each had promised to send to Berlin.

Win what?
Anyway, I knew that Great Admiral Dönitz promised and did sent 5.000 sailors to defend Berlin, but have no idea of who were the other ones? General Wenck? Von Greim? I don't know...

Hi Friedrich: Read the first sentence in the above posting--thats the prize this time.
Good guess but--your off by thousands of prmoised reinforcements.
The "key" words are: "Leaders of the various military branches"
Come try again.

Hi PzJgr--you got warmer on one of the guesses, but still off by a few thousand and wrong leader and wrong branch. You got two leaders names correct though. Also add a zero to one of the correct ones and that part will be correct.

Dammit, I'm in the same boat as PzJgr- I just read "The Final Battle", I clearly remember reading this part of the book. Too bad I can't remember it clearly!
Donitz, kriegsmarine, 50,000
Goering, luftwaffe, 10,000
Himmler, volksturm/hitler youth, 50,000
hey, I tried...

This is just a [i]wild guess,{/i]
but might the answer be:
Goring (Luftwaffe): 100,000 men
Donitz (Navy): 12,000 men
Himmler (SS): 25,000 men
Respectfully submitted,

At this same meeting, Hitler and Major-General Buhle were also able to contribute a further 13,000 men for Heinrici.

I thought that Heinrici was also trying to get more men for Buhle in order to hold the Russians back? Didn't Buhle report to Heinrici?

PzJgr:
I was a little vague.
Hitler offered the 13,000 figure after consulting with Buhle.

Yes that is correct. Buhle did not offer the 13,000, Hitler came up with the figure after a conversation with Buhle.
BTW, the numbers you gave were correct.
Hermann Goring
Luftwaffe
100,000
Heinrich Himmler
Waffen SS
25,000
Karl Donitz
Kriegsmarine
12,000
Good guess. Man, if I only had my book. The Last Battle p271 for both of the above

Congrats, Knight!
Well, I hope that the next one will be a WSS one, so my friend PzJgr will be able to win!

I dont even know what the next one will be--but COULD be an SS one. We'll just have to wait and see when the next quiz with prize will be. Im liquidating items I no longer want for one reason or another. I dont have many im doing away with but, some that I am parting with are decent prizes.

This is good. I am being forced to learn German military history. Bring on the next question.

I wouldnt look at it as being forced into learning but--just making learning a bit more fun I dont know exactly when ill post a question #3 but I will try to do so in a decent amount of time. Reason being is, that I dont have easy access to the items I wish to part with (they reside in a friends safe) and we meet only about once a month.
