Look at some of the treasures that they have to offer:

Take this as an example: 4 sided farm buildings located in Eastern Germany between Leipzig and Dresden. The ones I saw a pic of were built as a Fortresslike farm community called: Vierseithof, which were built that way for protection against atttack.

Medieval Gothic St. Matthias Church in Budapest, Hungary.

Loosdrechtse Plasses, Netherlands. A VERY colorful community--the buildings and the rooftops.

Hamina, Finland which is 27 miles (43km) from the Russian border. The town was built in an Octagonal shape planned in 1723.

Absolutely amazing Sans Souchi Palace in Potsdam, Germany built in 1747 by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff.

Salzburg, Austria. Home of the Hohensalzburg Fortress which was built around 1500. Really amazing to look at--especially covered with a thick warm blanket of pure white snow.

Marienplatz in Munich, Germany built in 1638. This is where the famous mechanical figures are that come out twice daily.

Halle, Germany home of the fabulous Paulus Church built around 806???

St. Wolfgang Church in Eastern Tyrol, upper Austria. Sits on a hill in the Pustertal Valley with the Defereggen Mountains as its backdrop.

Offingen, Germany has a great Gothic Cathedral which was built in 1516.

Of course--I cannot forget to list the great Cologne Cathedral in Cologne, Germany.

St. Stephens Gothic Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. Its south tower stands 450 feet high.

Leipzig, Germany where they was built an amazingly planned out community called: "Nibelungen-Ring, which was planned by the NSDAP and was constructed in mythical rings around Siegfried Square.

Englisher Garten in Munich, Germany. An amazing 5 story circular building.

Unter Der Linden Strasse in Berlin, Germany. Home of Frederick the Great who was born there in 1712.

Reinharz Castle which is near Halle, Germany was built in 1701 amid gorgeous surroundings.

The ultimate in Castles--Neuschwanstein Castle built between 1886-1889 by the mad King Ludwig II of Bavaria. This Castle overlooks the Allgau Mountains near the Austrian border. This was 1 of 3 outlandish construction projects started by Konig Ludwig II. (This is the Castle that Disney Castle is modeled after).

An absolutely stunning-looking Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. Home of the worlds oldest Zoo.

If you cross out all the copies rebuilt after 1945 because bomber airplanes firebomed the originals into ruins during 1939-1945, your list will be considerably shorter.

Cheers,

Dont forget The long man of wilmington and the thousands of other standing stone sites and so on that are often more impressive than stonehenge. Gloucester cathedral is the finest in Britain (mind you, I am biased seeing as how I was born just down the road from it). The English countryside is a national treasure in itself and the HMS Victory should be on the list. There is more but I cant think of many off hand.

Miss it? They only managed to put two Bombs on the whole city and they were waaaay over the other side. More bombs landed on the Forest of Dean.

Bish--oh YEAH--I can find tons more to see in England--starting with the Imperial War Museum and Buckingham Palace--which ive seen an airial view in a book I was looking through yesterday--apparently taken during the Changing of the Guard.
PS-I got the drift but had to spout off.

I know during the war many of these fine structures were badly damaged but im glad they are rebuilt. Two years ago I donated what monies I could to the reconstruction ot the Cathedral in Dresden. There is s site somewhere about it--showing the progress made.

9==G'Dansk is definately in Poland. Remember Lach Lewesa? He was the factory worker who fought against the russian regieme and eventually became the leader in Poland. This was during the 1980's.

One thing that has been my favourite over the years ( if I had the time and MONEY ) in Finland and something I do recommend. Usually July-August every year with famous foreign opera singers as well as Finnish ones...the atmosphere in itself is unique!

The Savonlinna Opera festival. I do think I asked Friedrich to sing there one day during the autumn...

Bigger picture of the castle where the operas are held:

Very nice castle. Fortunately I only have to drive about an hour to visit my favourite castle for concerts, firework displays, the Rhododendron gardens or just the castle. An appeal for me is it seems so liveable in, which indeed it is.

Thanx No. 9,

That looks very nice! And like I said the castles do have a certain atmosphere...well, if taken care of. Would like to own one but that would take a pile of money to buy one first and then two piles to take care of it...
