Well, the Concordes operated by Britain and France are about to be retired.

A shame really, now I will never get to fly in one.

They were way to expensive and only around 100 people could get in the plane.

Mixed feelings about Concorde - Barnes Wallis was absolutely right; when the concept was first put forward, he argued that it would be too noisy, too expensive to operate commercially and too limited in usefulness.
Ultimately, a magnificent 'white elephant'.
But what other civil aircraft, every time it flies over, still causes people to look up and go ' Look - Concorde !' ?

My wife Sharon, is quite upset about this.
It was always a dream of hers to take a flight in this aircraft.
Now its seems she will never get her wish

Even tho' it doesn't have propellers I've made a small contribution to the XH558 Vulcan To The Sky fund & I wish your work colleague all the very best.
But I have to say that, without absolutely mega-funding, I just can't see the CAA allowing it.
As Mike Beachy Head ( the guy who flies Lightnings - and not the P38 sort ! ) in South Africa famously said : 'You have to remember that these things were previously operated by large corporations - called Countries !'

It's a pity! Those are wonderful aeroplanes!
And really comfortable. I actually flew on board of one some six years ago when I visited New York (only for a few hours)...

Martin, Ill dig the guys personal page out for you...His family background in aviation is pretty good reading too..
The company we work for has the same budget and cash flow as a small nation..So perhaps...just perhaps...could use it to fly over City of London and drop advertising..Better than a blimp...
Wander if I could get a go opening the bomb doors...

Oh well, full marks to Channel 4 - they at least showed it with no 'cuts' and no politically-correct editing.
Much better than the BBC's pathetic effort last year !

Erwin, its my understanding, but may have changed since WTC atrocity, that Concorde is always run at full capacity..So someone aint bothered paying..Ok, mostly celebrities, and ceo's and the like, and is the preffered means of travel to states by many in the British Govt at taxpayers expense....Especially when they dont need the old redeye excuse is used...
But seems even a full payload is not enough to pay for the running and after Paris problem, extra safety costs involved.
