Come on...share your favorites with the forum. And, I've always wondered what the very very first post on this forum was, or the very first thread. Take a walk down memory lane...

Favourite threads... mmmm... There have been quite a few really good, mostly in "War in Russia" and "What-if" forums (mostly because AndyW never stops teasing nor I stop teasing him!)
We had the "Lions led by donkeys" thread and some other about WWI.

I have no favorites yet, considering I don't focus on anything under "theaters" but I'm entertained by the weapons quiz, irish pub, and others. I'm still curious about the first thread and post. I looked at the very beginning of "general" where people started coming in but i'm not sure if those are the firsts or not.

And as I now have something to do with Books & Publications, here's what looks to be the very first thread, and no, there are no prizes for guessing the topic !

I had a feeling it was going to be Ambrose related. But I dont get a prize... . Good question about the ol' guys. I've been reading some old old threads and I don't recognize half the names in there. Of course Carl was ranting and raving about Ambrose in that one thread, it looks like...some things never change...

Well, looking at my register date and the member # at the footline of my post, I have to admit I can't remember my fist posts here any more. Running the "search" query returns that "Thypoon"-thread (Oct. 2000)
http://www.ww2forums.com/cgi-bin/ubb...=000002#000003
with supposedly my first archived words on this board:
"History is 20/20 in hindsight, and especially if its written by German Generals."
Can't say that I changed my POV since that!
And I remember an early (still unsettled) dispute with a forum member who is still here about B-17s allegedly given to the Soviets under the lend-lease program.
Cheers,

I can't remember when or where was my first post...

My first post was rather embarassing as it had to do with my suggesting this entire forum to read Stephen Ambrose, and that was only a few months ago...so why am I even bringing it up?

I remember that my first post concerned the non-use of the British 3.7'' AA gun in the antitank role.
Ike, console yourself with the thought that things could have been worse - you might have recommended the entire works of David Irving....

German persons who made it possible that Hitler got to his position of Führer ( Bankers etc )
Finnish Waffen-SS

Actually of course not, I just make a last desperate try to advertize it.

Knightmove,
I feel sorry for you but I can't help but chuckle a little. I'm sure if you asked a so-easy-it's-criminal question the quiz will spring to life. I dunno about the other guys, but I really didn't know that the Beagle Boys were called that in German.

My favorite thread is the one Sapper started telling of his ww2 experiances. I never enjoyed a thread as much as I have of his thread.

Carl I have to agree. Nothing like the first hand battle experience and Brian has led us down the raod a few times always keeping us on the edge of our seats, plus involvemnet in the Bridge to Far thread and the battles for Holland.
thumbs up Sapper Brian !
Second of course is the interesting tid-bits thrown out by forum members covering the air battles over the Reich !
I need some Glüwein

Danke mein freund, yep--I enjoyed all of Sappers posts. I think I now need some Egg Nogg. No rootbeer today.
Ike, please read it, it really is a nicly written account from a real British ww2 combat vet. This Gentlemans name is Bryan Guy aka Sapper Bryan or Sapper. You will find he is quite the Gent as I have been priviledged to have exchanged some emails with him as now I wil be mailing off a Christmas Card to him.
Let me know what you think Ike.
Carl.

Sapper is online now and im going to wait around to see what he posts next. For what this man went through, I think England owes him a or something more appreciative than what he has been awarded.

My first posts are far too recent for me to get nostalgic over.
But the threads I've enjoyed most reading so far were the big Kursk discussion and Sapper's story.
There was also another thread somewhere that linked to an offsite NZ page about the Crete landings and fighting that I found to be a good read.

I think my first posts were in the Italia forum...which, sadly, is no longer up. Which reminds me...anyone know why it isn't up anymore???
But reading throough some of the first threads ever..there's a Killjoy there...any relation to the new SGT Killjoy?
