I believe this thread was lost in The Forum Crash. Anyone want to have another go at it? What have you learned/enjoyed from this site??

Well,
I've learned that this forum seems a great place for a misfit minority.
You stand next to them in the pub, and they wouldn't say boo to a ghost. Let them come in here with their pet obsessions, however, and all of a sudden they're urban Voltaires! No matter how much evidence you chuck at them, THEY can NEVER be wrong.
That apart, it's been good to find as many like-minded military history enthusiasts. We've got everything in here-modellers, re-enactors, historians, archaeologists. Regardless to your query, there's always SOMEONE in here with the answer.
It's too, too cool for words people!
Regards,
Gordon

What can I say about this forum except it's great?!
I love the discussions and the people here. I consider 'em all me pals —sorry, a bit of Irish bias...
Just love when some punk comes here saying "Isn't David Irving a great historian?" or "Poland won the war for everybody" or "Mark Clark was a military genious" or "Aristotle's wrong because I say so!" and we kind of jump at him!

Now back ot, this is a great forum, full of people who seem to know everything about anything that moved or didn't! And you keep a fine humorous atmosphere when called for, there are no stars, no misplaced prides, no know-it-alls, the ratio of idiots per square meter is close to zero. And this within a mix of origins, cultures, backgrounds.
A pleasure being with you guys!
Ura!

Maybe you're right... maybe it's 'cause English is not my native language... but I now get the point. Maybe the term "jump on someone" refers to what Friedrich would do if the super-cute model of Calvin Klein passed in front of him...

OK guys - I'll try to be sensible for a change....
The Historian has hit the nail on the head - it's the diversity of interests here which make the WWII forums so good, and why I've learned so much from our discussions. I've been prompted to follow-up many things from comments posted here, nearly all of which I read with interest. Even things which I'll never be involved in, such as re-enactment or medal-collecting, always interest me when they're discussed .
Sure, I've tried other forums and many are fascinating. But many seem too specialised and 'anorak-y'. You probably know the sort of thing - you don't know how many rivets there were in a MkII Lancaster ? How dare you post here ?
These forums have had a tough time since the New Year - I for one hope that the Webmaster gets on the case and knocks the Forum back into shape - for my money, it's still the best one out there.

Well I think you still get that here but I get your drift that it is more a 'General Knowledge' group rather than a specialist Forum.
In my area by far and away the premier site for WWII Armour is Missing-Lynx. However these 'anorak' sites are the cutting edge of current research and as such are indespensible for any serious enthusiast. Yes you would be unwise to post on such a site without a thorough grounding in your subject but the response you will get shows you the breathtaking amount of research being done by ordinary men out there on their own.
We need these expert Forums as well as the more generalised ones but it is a pity that whilst we have Feldgrau and Axis History Forum for the German side of WWII no such forum exists (with the same depth of coverage) for the Allied side.
