George Carlin Dead
Sad I loved his stuff from when I was a kid.
Comedian George Carlin dies in Los Angeles at 71
23 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.
Carlin, who had a history of heart problems, died at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters.
Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine about seven dirty words you could not say on television. A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of his "Filthy Words" routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

Re: George Carlin Dead
So sad. He was unique and funny, and showed his intelligence while assuming most in his audience were as well (aside from those he lampooned!).

Heard it on the radio coming into work. He was well rounded and provided comedy to all ages. RIP brother.

I never was much of a fan of his. A bit foul-mouthed for me.

Re: George Carlin Dead
Rest in Peace George.
I sure loved watching him perform at Carnagie Hall. His skits there were my favorite. I wished that he could have done a "tour" with Richard Pryer before he had passed away.

I'm not going to argue that point. But ya, know, they both would have been just as funny, even without the foul language. I used to retell Richard Pryor's skit about Toodlums and Mrs Rudolph, only using language I could use in front of my grandmother. It was still hilarious. Punch lines in that skit were, "Come next Thanksgiving, I don't have my turkey, you will see him again" talking about the disappearing tarantula and "He's the polar bear, with little baby feets [sic]."

Wasn't it "You have 23 odds and ends on a table and 22 fall off. What do you have left? An odd or an end?" LOL

Re: George Carlin Dead
Even though I did not personally know him he was a great comedian and even a bit of a philosopher. R.I.P (as much as he hated euphemisms)

Re: George Carlin Dead
He was foul mouthed that's for sure!
I always like the clean stuff myself, like the "Hippy Dippy Weatherman"....
"Weather forecast for tonight....dark. Continued dark overnight, with widely scattered light by morning."

Re: George Carlin Dead
Boy it's been a longtime but, I do remember his skit "stuff."
"What do you do with all of your old stuff? You put it in the closet and then you buy more STUFF!"
Talk about being foul-mouthed. The guy I can't stand who is foul-mouthed-is Chris Rock. He's TRYING to be Richard Pryor, but he's no Richard Pryor.

G.C. , like most comediennes, had a knack for putting a finger on things we all are aware of but don't really notice. He was the first to acknowledge that any guy named Vinny can beat up any guy named Todd...R.I.P.
