Be careful what you wish for, a line may form, all aiming at your arse.

It's best to do as I do - don't even look at them.

Me and The Red Rabbi and 5th Guards Tank Army
I don't know what the kind of propositions above do on people but the prospect made Slipdigit write the same thing twice
What Ifs are useful. Normally thread initiators and supporters are people who do not contribute much if they do at all to true historical threads so they have to compensate with their outlandish scenarios. Discussion on these and the fact that ignorance is brought to light brings out the worst on people so these can be recognisable for what they are. Therefore What Ifs serve a purpose even if an unpeasant one.
What raises my interest is that once in a deep blue moon does it appear a What If on an Allied theme, those propounding a German victory in the Twilight Zone are just too predictable and monotonous.
As I said before, better "What Was" than "What Wasn't".

Re: If I should post on a what-if thread again...
I know I am a relative newbie to these forums, but I do not really see a lot of benefit in the "What if" threads. I am definitely a student of history and, back in the day, I was also a fan of science fiction. Even then, I could not stomach historical science fiction (the "What-ifs") because they run completely contrary to the reality of history. I would much rather see an assessment of why things happened and how we can learn from it, than speculate as to what would have happened if we had done things differently (except to the extent that we are applying the analysis to a forward action).

Re: If I should post on a what-if thread again...
Well I can't really abide "what-ifs" and only posted on that one which turned "reet odd" because it was in new posts, so I'll be happy to have the whole membership lining up for a "rear maneuver".
