Hey lads, wouldnt it be cool if activision made a CoD game based in World War One? For once you can fight as the British or the Canadians :) or even the Germans or French? I can see it happening.

You'd get bored with a three o all the time...tanks that get bogged etc etc...always a limited Genre.
How about a IL2 game where ALL aircraft are represented...points are also accrued through various ways...the points can be used to "purchase" items...Machins guns and cannon from the start to the end of the war...aircraft engines that can be upgraded with points...special additions like brake flaps or accelerons can be bought and added...the game computing how much they weigh and drag and gives your aircraft the according performance...You can upgrade everything over time or one thing (like armour or armament) only...The ability to cutomise ones aircraft in terms of paint would also be cool. Was playing this game last night, and for the thousandth time asked myself..."how good is this game??"

Not sure about a WWI shooter game, other than perhaps a Sniper version. What are you gonna do check your trench foot every couple of hours? I thought most raids were done with limited shooting, and firing on a walking line of Infantry will get boring pretty soon.

WWI had the first really advanced means of killing a lot of other men. ..Maxim's machine gun, poison gas, the tank, heavy effective artillery, the interrupter gear, the sub, battleship...Makes for a great game play story....Would bet it's gonna happen.

Maybe one day you can order massive artillery barrages and see how your attack progresses. These days it seems the war games are more and more modern warfare with bigger guns, rockets, planes etc more effective weapons. So Artillery barrages should not be a problem I guess, it´s what the big audience wants and buys.

If treyarch or infinity ward where to release a ww1 game i might be sceptical on just how they would make it work, all points brought up so far have raised arguable questions as to how they would replicate the ww1 battlefield, my opi ion is for them to make a ww1 game work they would need to take the same approach as they are doing with Black Ops 2 which is incorperating vehicles more heavily into the game play and make them more available to the player, doing this wod add a lot more to the campaign and give them a better opportunity to draw out the campaign, doing so would would add more than enough fun to compensate for repetative trench warfare. If they did this i would seriously consider buying it

I would be a fan of WWI in terms of RTS or world-playing games, but for an FPS I think it would be decent as well. If you've ever played the 1918 Mod for Counterstrike Source it's actually a really fun game... the only problem with the FPS genre... where in the heck are you going to find cover? xD

Any WWI game would likely have to be a strategy one as the concept of using small units or combined arm's only came into play later in a large scale, Would love to play it my self but i don't see it being appreciated on a large enough scale to make it viable for activision/etc to actually put the funds into producing it.

What I'd like to see though is with these WWII games a greater use of other nation's as characters, Other wise soon enough kid's will start to think only Russia, Japan, US, UK and Germany were in the war..

For PC games I have not yet come across a WWII game that has an Aussie as the character. (Game based on Kokoda??)

I would like to see Gallipoli represented, that way you could do both World War 1 and have the Aussies and Kiwis represented fairly as they deserve. But a game on the Kokoda operation in FPS would be awesome too.

    I agree with this totally!!

There's a game called Verdun on Steam Greenlight which can only be described at CoD: WWI.
I've played it even though it's still in beta and it's incredibly fun.

    Here's a link.

Can't imagine a WWI game being all that exciting if it is anything close to reality. There would be a battle against Trench foot, perpetual body lice slaughter, and the inevitable find cover while the enemy shell us section. A WWI game is doable, but they would need to focus on very limited portions with a lot of Hollywood thrown in. Looks like the Verdun game might be a good try though.

IL2 is a very well done game, but designing every single WW2 aircraft with their precision would be a staggeringly large task!

I would argue against that ascertion Otto...one would have a parameters area for the aircraft...they all fly the same, just have different parameters...Top speed, turning circle, fire power and accuracy, climbing speed etc etc...they all have these, just different values, most of which have already been applied. My above idea would perhaps be more difficult, indeed would need another engine to bring together differing techs...but the time and PC power is already there to lend itself to the idea...

Battlefield 1 was excellent. The vignette style campaign was a perfect setup and the stories are superb.

Battlefield 1 is far from reality, which makes sense, as many people pointed out before, WW1 is a very difficult war to replicate, and make an enjoyable game out of. Most of the maps in BF1 have very few, or no trenches at all, most are carrying around rare prototype semi-auto rifles, walking around with MG15's and Lewis guns which are about 50 pounds, and many have capes and other unique uniform apparel that you typically wouldn't see in WW1. Everything I mentioned above is what Dice thought was the only way for people to enjoy WW1, which is probably accurate sadly. There are two games made by the same company named Verdun and Tannenberg, these games are the only semi-accurate WW1 games out there, with Trench warfare being the main focus, and there are no Lewis gun wielding, Semi-auto rifle, cape wearing, black German soldiers around. It's not a graphical wonder like BF1, but it has real uniforms and weapons used, and if you get shot, you're dead.

I agree with most of your assessment. However the game itself is, IMHO, a success. Its hard to pick apart a video game like we do a film. Though not authentic in many ways, the plots are phenomenal. There needs to be a way to attract all types, they did a solid job. The American pilot infiltrating a British unit and stealing his Bristol was far fetched but the campaign was satisfying. Creeping through "no man's land" was a visual masterpiece (can I say that about a video game) and added to the dramatic appeal to the game.

Now that the Battlefield series is returning to WWII I am interested to see their attempt. People are already "up in arms" over female characters.

I totally agree Battlefield 1 was successful, I just gave my viewpoints as to why it isn't an accurate portrayal of WW1, which is unfortunate because most who play the game have a very limited or no knowledge on the conflict so what they see in the game is factual. I thought that the Battlefield V trailer was so absurd it was comical, but I saw that coming from a mile away. I don't agree with the woman on the cover, not because she's a woman, but it's a British woman with a prosthetic arm fighting in the frontlines, everything about what I just said is 100% not true to WW2 at all. I think that is why so many people are upset. Battlefield fans asked for a legitimately accurate and immersive game, slightly more realistic and accurate than Battlefield 1, while allowing for some obvious inaccuracies and creative liberties. But instead people got a Fortnite rip off with everyone running around with blue face paint and Teddy bears. Battlefield 1 was anything but historically accurate, but it wasn't ridiculous and absurd like Battlefield V is showing itself to be. People were hoping for a return to Battlefield 1942's glory, but Dice didn't listen, and they're paying for it dearly already.
