Hello everyone! I have been a pretty avid model airplane collector since I was about 6 years old, I used to only get models during my birthday or Christmas, but now I buy a new kit about once a month. I like to think I have a pretty good collection of models (about 50 models now), I collect nothing but 1/72 scale. Most of them are WW2 warbirds made by the U.S, I need only about 8 or 9 more before I have all of the major American warbirds. Is anyone else on here passionate about model collecting? Here is a list of models I have collected (Just American warbirds) P-36 Hawk (Paint scheme is Vichy French Air Force North Africa) P-39 Aircobra (Brooklyn Bum) P-38 Lightning (Putt Putt Maru) P-40 Warhawk (Aleutian Tiger) P-47 Thunderbolt (Razorback, and Bubble top) P-51 Mustang (Boise Bee P-51B, Big Beautiful Doll P-51D P-61 Black Widow (Midnite Madness) F4F Wildcat (Tiny Cactus air force) F6F Hellcat (Miss Minsi II) F4U Corsair (Jolly Rogers) F7F Tigercat (Korea nightfighter) F8F Bearcat (Blue Angels) B-17 (Memphis Belle) B-24 (Teggie Ann) B-25 Mitchell (Betty's Dream) B-26 Marauder (Rosie o'Brady) B-29 Superfortress (Fifi) C-47 Skytrain (Kilroy was here) A-26 Invader (Stinky) TBF Avenger (George Bush Sr) SBD Dauntless (Pre-War scheme) O2SU Kingfisher (Pre War scheme) PBY Catalina (Coast Guard) Lockheed Hudson (RAF Patrol Bomber) Missing from my collection: P-43 Lancer P-63 Kingcobra A-20 Havoc C-46 Commando F2A Buffalo TBD Devastator SB2C Helldiver Lockheed Ventura Grumman Goose PBM Mariner
I had made around 60 1/72 models...from all airforces...even a rare Australian Wirraway Started with a Corsair...finished with a Mustang I had made as a post war racer...Stuffed my wrist making a B-17 - Shaking the little paint pots permanently damaged my right wrist...so many silver coats! Sadly my Dingo dog destroyed about 40 of them...I now only have the bombers left (too high for her to reach)
Darn dogs, I try to get less labor intensive builds and do easy paint schemes, P-51 Big Beautiful Doll I had to hire a teenager who is great at painting, he did a pretty great job actually, and he got 15 bucks out of it.
What!? Bloody cheek! Getting someone else to do the work...tsk tsk... : ) Painting was my favourite part...the model would come alive in your hands...and its not hard either...the canopies can be tricky, but with a little bit of modellers masking tape anyone can do a good job...im not a "spray painter" gives a "too good" finish and doesn't look authentic IMO (many disagree im sure) I had a "Petie 2nd" mustang...a bazooka firing ground attack mustang...and a Mustang racer (In a Starsky and Hutch car paint scheme - looked very cool)
I am not the most skilled artist ever, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to things I've paid for, so I prefer someone else who is experienced and skilled unlike me, I'll do basic layers, and for some I did it all by myself, for the really challenging ones though I get Porter (teenager I mentioned) to help. I like your creativity with the Mustangs by the way

That is a very impressive collection that you have there! I also forgot that I had posted some of mine in an earlier post. Must be the age.
