I'm pleased to begin as a member here. I'm 63 and live in Speedway, Ind. and have collected militaria since I was 8 years old, built military models and do some WWII re-enacting as well. It seems like there has always been something to study and learn. I hope to learn a lot more here. I am also researching my father's WWII military unit and his time in the military. That's been a tough one, but I have had some luck, and I hope to find out a lot more. My father was Sergeant Willard C. Marsh, parts clerk for the 130th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company of the XIXth Corps. I've only been able to scratch the surface so far. Thank you for letting me be a part of the forum. Sincerely, Bill marshwm
G'day Bill...great to have you on board. My kind of speedway...Solos! I hope a forum member can step up soon and can help with more information on your father. Feel free to post some of your militaria too...we have a thread on just that sort of thing.
Welcome aboard. One of the things that those who help often ask for is postings of his separation papers. If you don't have them there are threads here where they mention how to get them (it's not always easy). We do have several members who are really good at this sort of thing and are usually quick to jump in and help.

He kept many items from his time in the army during WWII. By the way, which topic area of the forum is best to post and discuss and ask questions in regards to researching my father's unit and his time in the military? -Bill
Information requests or those who served. The former might be considered more for getting help and the latter for presenting it. The mods here can be quite helpful and nobody gets too bent out of shape in regards to off topic posts (as long as it's not modern politics which are restricted to the free fire zone). Otto has given a home to a number of forums that needed rehosting in the last year or so. Eventually he plans to integrate them into a more regular hierarchy but that's going to take a considerable amount of time and thought and I believe he's prioritizing actually saving what info he can. Just realized that that may be one of the reasons some of our members are so helpful in this sort of research. It saves and makes available some history that might otherwise disappear. Reading the various details that people can dig out about those of interest (often but not always relatives) can aid ones understanding of issue on a personal level that's hard to get otherwise. So even by asking you are doing us all a service.
Thank you very much lwd. Very helpful information. I hope to be able to make a decent contribution now and then. As luck would have it, I have already made contact with the grandson of a member of my father's unit due to this forum. -Bill
Don't be afraid to ask question. Sometimes even what appear to be fairly simple obvious questions turn out to provoke some very interesting discussions and/or bring to light some obscure but significant facts. Indeed asking the right questions is a huge part of the battle.
Welcome to the Forums marsh, it's good to have you here. Simply responding to threads and asking questions is contributing, so don't be shy in that regard.
Yep, that's my dad. I requested that marker for his grave site. How on earth did you find a photo of it? -Bill
Welcome to the site marshwm. I'm glad we sorted your account. Good to see you making progress with your father. What can you share about your re-enacting? I'd like to hear what you do and where you participate.
