Google "petrodollar" and it will explain why we are so involved in the Middle East. Part of the deal with the Saudis, and the other oil exporting countries (OPEC) is that we would protect their oilfields with our military and furnish them weapons if they would only deal in US dollars and also buy our debt. Iran broke the agreement and began dealing in Euro dollars and also invaded Kewait--to keep the petrodollar system in place it was imperative that we get Iran back on track, so H.W Bush sent in Storman Norman.

It really is more complicated than it appears since our economy is being supported by non-oil producing countries like Japan demanding our dollar so they can buy oil. If there is a demand for our dollar, we just print what they need since it's not backed by anything, and sell the bonds (debt) to OPEC. I need to echo Poppy, why doesn't anyone seem to care or realize that we can't let people sue Saudia Arabia because it would really hurt our economy if they stopped honoring our bonds and called in our debt.

 

Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990.
George H W Bush & Stormin' Norman invaded Iraq in 1991.
Iraq switched to the Euro in 2000.
Iran switched to the Euro in 2016.

My mistake Takao, I ment Iraq instead of Iran. It was Saddam Hussein who tried to break the OPEC agreement and accept Euros instead of US Dollars.

 

You are also off in personalities & time line...Kuwait, George H W Bush & Stormin Norman were 1990-91, but that was almost a decade before Saddam switched to the Euro.

So, your whole claim is pretty much broken.

The article is over a year old. As of February, 2016, Russia began taking Chinese payments for petroleum products in Yuan/Renminbi.
