Never have been a novel reader...Tom Clancy(those written while he was still alive), Terry Prattchet, and the Shaaras' Civil War trilogy, with a couple other odds & ends thrown in.

I read yesterday that self isolation is having an effect on a number of other diseases...the flu rate is well down this year for example...there are so many ‘effects’ not witnessed or experienced by today’s generations (which in itself is a good thing) So much of the economy is about human behaviour...it is a human construct...look at what an event does to the share markets, adding or shaving off billions...the big unknown here is employment...that’s at the heart of the economy...this only goes up if people spend...
Spending and employment are about confidence in the short and medium, so how to generate confidence?
This is where good leadership from all areas is sorely needed...

It's kind of exploding over the last few days because test kits are becoming plentiful. Estimates by CDC are that 50 to 85 times more people have the virus than they've been estimating. Something like 2.5 to 4.5% of the population are carrying it now or carried it in the last couple of months! That brings the death rate down to zip. It spreads easily, far more easily than we imagined, but only a small percentage of people get seriously ill, and even fewer die. We need to protect the elderly and people with suppressed immune systems, etc, the rest of the population should just relax.

KB, I haven't seen a CDC estimate of the prevalence or cumulative incidence of Covid-19 recently. Can you cite a source for those numbers?

I read one study by some guys juggling numbers who estimated that there are 10-100x more people who have been infected than the numbers report. However, their reasoning was a bit circular and presumptuous, so I took that with a hefty pinch of salt. At the same time, from the limited studies I have seen, it is pretty clear we have many more cases in the USA than are being reported.

Nevertheless, I would not go so far as to say the mortality rate is 'zip'.

CoV has killed 1.5x as many Americans in the past two months as 'flu' has in the past 5-6 months. In terms of deaths per day, CoV-2 is much more worrisome than this year's flu viruses.

We've seen some bad flu years in the USA where 40,000 to 100,000 people have died (Not including the 1918 flu, which was even worse.). We're on track for that kind of impact, and that is happening despite extreme measures to limit the spread of Covid-19. To have the morbidity and mortality that we are seeing this quickly, despite a huge prevention effort, is a clear indication of the virulence of the CoV virus in my mind.

....giving $$$$ to the world is like giving $$$$ to stupid people...they will just spend it and stay in debt/starvation/conflict/etc.....there are a lot of factors involved.....
!! do you understand that the US can't even agree on how to spend it's $$$$ ''correctly''' on US programs?? there is waste in US programs??....you think the WHO is going to use that $$$$ to spend it effectively and efficiently ? I've got some swamps to sell you, if you do

here is a perfect example--of wasting US $$$$ on foreign ''idiocy''--just one of many--you should learn from your mistakes:

It seems that no one really cares about the National Debt. All past actions taken that guided macro economic decision making are useless. Interesting times to watch the world economy behaves when the world is at war.

I love listing to podcasts to help me understand "What the heel is going on. I repped some factories and brokers in China back in the 1990's. Clients would find a supplier for some custom cut sand sew product they wanted. Her's an interesting story into part of the mask fiasco and how to work around the supply chain..

Mutiny on the Bounty. Life with a native girl or Capt Bleigh? Not a tough choice IMO.

I connected with Tom Joad in the Grapes of Wrath.

Some folks in the neighborhood decided to have a parade today. The want the freedom to be Typhoid Mary and go fishing. I'm no Bible thumper. From Google. Eph 6:11 'Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes."

5 weeks in lock down. 3 to go? Not looking good. We The People are demanding our god given and constitutional right to get haircuts and fishing. The pot keeps getting stirred. 2nd wave will be worse than it could have been.
