I’m old, I guess 75 is old. But I’m tough, as much as I can be, beat cancer twice. But I am aware this is much different. I am cautious now, but aware that I may be easier to lead to the grave. But, I am not afraid. Really, just careful, To tell you the truth I am sick of this and all the politics that go with it. If I get this virus, I fight it, I have no health problems except arthritis and a bad back. And, that f______ mask makes it hard to breathe.

I'm entitled to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Try to remember that. Plainly, most of your arguments are bullshit when compared to the facts, so there is that. I'm confused by my neighbors who are asked to wear a mask indoors telling me online to go fuck myself. I've offered to meet so they could say that to my face to face and so far no takers. Why do you think that is? Karens?

Boo Hoo. Let me offer my sympathy for someone who has to wear a mask a few minutes indoors to protect their neighbors. Such suffering. Such inhumane treatment.

I'm glad Arizona has had 500 fatalities for a population of 7 million, then again South Korea with a population of 51.6 million has about 250 fatalities or half as many for 7 times the population. So if Arizona had fully locked down they might have had less than 100 fatalities. I'm sure that makes all the difference to 400 odd Arizona families.

You are NOT entitled to prevent other people from life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. What they do does not affect you.

The lockdown only spreads out the infections, but doesn't prevent a single one. That's the word from every expert on the planet.

MERS actually mutated itself out of existence, becoming less harmful and eventually disappearing. Ebola was so deadly it ran out of hosts. This new one is much different. It mutates quickly and we've identified 14 strains (as of May 5th) going around in this country. Some are more deadly, some are less, some are more contagious, some are less. Really, it's a perfect life form. It doesn't kill a healthy host, in fact most don't even get ill so they carry it and allow it to reproduce and spread to other hosts.

I don't know what strain South Korea has/had, but I do know it is still going around and when they come out of lockdown it will spread at a greater rate. If you're infirm, don't go out. If you're healthy and do go out you'll get it and eventually have the antibodies and be part of the solution - unless we get a mutation that so differs from the original that the antibodies no longer work. In any case, at this point healthy people should relax - and avoid their older or sick friends and relatives.

I'm sorry but asking you to wear a mask to protect others from getting sick does not seem like an undue hardship to my ears. On a scale of 1 - 10, how painful would it be for you to wear a mask to shop at Baja Guns to protect the clerk? Seriously, I'm interested in what discomfort level you feel and the 1 - 10 will help. For me, I'd say physically it's a 3. Infringing on my life style it's an 8. But that is temporary and only a few minutes at a time. IPersonally, the virus has taken from me a joyful thing that I like to do but I will never be able to do again. Whenever I was standing in a line behind a mom holding a baby or toddler and the kid looked at me, I'd stick my tongue out a little and make like a motor boat. Always got a big smile and giggle.

If what they do does not effect other people...Then why are you walling up the old & infirm?

Obviously what the young & healthy do effects the old & infirm.

You would probably be amazed and confused by how much the Mexican and Nepalese cultures respect their elderly. It' would seem so foreign to you as it did to me.

Not if the old and infirm are locked down. You are responsible for your own health. It's unfair for you to insist those not at risk lose their jobs and homes so you can be a social butterfly.

Is it not also unfair for you to insist that the elderly & infirm sacrifice their rights to life, liberty & happiness, so that you are not inconvienienced and be a social butterfly enjoying bars & restaurants.

Since asking for the country to unite in respecting their neighbor by social distancing and wearing a mask in appropriate situations isn't going to happen, a 2nd wave and/or slow decline in the curve (years) is our future. The only logical recourse is for me is to wear an N95 as a part of my defense strategy. I posted that idea in the virus thread in other forum thread I'm in and I'm picking up 2 this after noon from a local.

The article, on the NPR site, didn't mention that - so she wasn't, and the others, 1.4M weren't either.
Such suspicions are conspiracy theory stuff.

Those are individual rights, you have the right to pursue them
but not to force others to help you in that, to finance your fantasies.

I am deeply concerned that the social, economic and public health consequences of this near total meltdown of normal life — schools and businesses closed, gatherings banned — will be long lasting and calamitous, possibly graver than the direct toll of the virus itself. The stock market will bounce back in time, but many businesses never will. The unemployment, impoverishment and despair likely to result will be public health scourges of the first order.

But as the work force is laid off en masse (our family has one adult child home for that reason already), and colleges close (we have another two young adults back home for this reason), young people of indeterminate infectious status are being sent home to huddle with their families nationwide.

There is another and much overlooked liability in this approach. If we succeed in slowing the spread of coronavirus from torrent to trickle, then when does the society-wide disruption end? When will it be safe for healthy children and younger teachers to return to school, much less older teachers and teachers with chronic illnesses? When will it be safe for the work force to repopulate the workplace, given that some are in the at-risk group for severe infection?

We could wait until there’s an effective treatment, a vaccine or transmission rates fall to undetectable levels. But what if those are a year or more away? Then we suffer the full extent of societal disruption the virus might cause for all those months. The costs, not just in money, are staggering to contemplate.

Far out! A virus that can open doors and windows and run along the carpet and pole vault onto people!
These people obviously WEREN'T staying home, and when going out, observing the 2 meter rule and washing their hands regularly and not touching their faces...Take a look at the stats I posted...the US wins by a considerable margin in every competition...Does this virus not like Americans? Or is America doing something the others aren't?
This whole argument is the reason the US is in the state it is...No one is on the same page. If this was something as bad as Spanish Flu...half of the US would be dead by now.
Who needs weapons of mass destruction when you have the American ego...just release something into the water and let people and their "rights" (pffft) do the rest.
This isn't about rights, if it were then a whole bunch of things would be different in the US if people actually respected "rights"...this is about individual selfishness...a selfishness that is keeping that death toll ticking over while other countries are beginning to open up because they haven't had a new case in weeks...Or it could be just about money...I suppose a true capitalist country should value money over lives...just didn't think i'd see it from America.

Their family members, visitors brought the virus to their homes.
Where the virus could linger for many hours/even days on surfaces, when at the same time gets killed in minutes by sun outdoors.
