Consumerism has been around, in various forms, for centuries, even millennia. It did not suddenly spring up from Nazi Germany. For instance, Bosch introduced the first German refrigerator in 1933, Americans had several brands to choose from in 1933. There were over 20 million cars registered in the US in 1933, care to guess how many were registered in German in 1933? Buy a Volkswagen on an installment plan - not a new idea, again other folks had been doing it a long time before.

Looks are immaterial ...When Germany threatens war and other nations don't want to or are unprepared to go to war, they will appease Germany.

The Poles did not expect anything earlier, because Germany & Poland had concluded a non-aggression pact in 1934.

Business is not Politics, Soviet money is just as good as anyoneelse's. US businesses helped to build Soviet industry, because the Soviets were paying top dollar.

Steam Locomotives were supplied by Alco & Baldwin. Diesel locomotives were supplied by Alco, Baldwin, & Electro Motive(a division of General Motors - NOT General Electric). A great many of these came via Lend-Lease during the war. The Soviets were building their own diesels in 1925 with German MAN diesels. The diesels supplied under lend lease comprised a very small portion of overall Soviet locos.

General Electric did not build the Dnieper Hydroelectric Station - They built the power generating units. The Americans helped with design and supervised construction.

Actually many foreign countries participated in electrifying the Soviet Union...Siemens, a German company, was another.

Yep, and before that, the Americans introduced, in their own way, consumerism. And before them, it was the French, before them, it was the British...Romans...Egyptians...Greeks...etc.

 

Indeed it was one way the Romans softened up neighbouring territories - get their ruling class so used to Roman goods and luxuries that they almost welcome the Roman take over and collaborated. It has been said that it wasn't the Claudian legions that conquered Britain so much as the preceding Tiberian dinner parties.
