    Just found this.
"On the 27th of May, 2021, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a formal apology to Italian Canadians for their internment during WWII after Canada declared war on Italy.
After the declaration of war, over 30,000 Italian Canadians became “enemy aliens” — people who belong to a foreign nation that the government is in conflict with. Often, governments see these people as potential threats to the safety of their own nation.
These enemy aliens were fingerprinted, monitored, and had to report to local authorities every month. At the same time, any fascist groups immediately became illegal. Today, it is accepted that the treatment of what were once innocent civilians was unfair and was directly contradicted the beliefs Canadians were fighting to protect."

    I'm missing something here...

Didn't Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney apologize to Canadian-Italians back in 1990?

China continues to target Chinese Australians to spy on us, threatening their families back in China if they don't...personally, i can understand the special treatment. "governments see these people as potential threats to the safety of their own nation." - Yes they ARE potential threats - logic and experience should trump political correctness in times of life and death - WAR. We "intern" people from overseas right now because they are potential threats to spread COVID...They probably don't have it, but we don't take chances.

" fingerprinted, monitored, and had to report to local authorities every month" - Doesn't sounds like internment anyway.

It was war so I can understand. It is not war so I cannot understand.

He did that in 1988, not long after Ronald Reagan made his apology to Japanese-Americans.

What is not mentioned...Is that they were imprisoned("interned" if you will) for many months, and their property confiscated. They also lost their jobs, which they often did not get back upon release.

So, no it does not sound like internment, but more like a convicted criminal who had to serve jail time, and was released on parole.

That becomes punitive and not a security arguement…if this happened in Australia, we would be prepared to spend billions in damages compensation…you can’t do one without the other.

Wondering how many Alllied countries made an apology and funded the time in the camps? Like Japanese who lived and had born in the US.

....hindsight is 20/20......lots of rights were ''denied'' during the war ....such as the amount of food you could buy/etc
...I would give perfect examples of today, but I'm not allowed to .....it was just common sense for security

i had some bits regarding japanese and german internment here in southern ab...Albert had some good info and pictures of german soldier gravestones here.
The canadian government has a lot of 'splainin' to do.
they , the royals and the church murdered hundreds of children sent to schools . There was a mass grave in bc that had some 250 unmarked graves, and now they say 750 more graves found in saskatchewan.
thank God, the evil is being exposed. start with the pope, queen and the communist turdo known as justin.
    a reckoning is coming.

Given that Justin was 24 years old when the last school closed, you could blame him as much as you could blame yourself.

pfft. if you think the son of crazy nutter margaret had no prior knowledge of any catholic school abuses, maybe you should run to your favourite fact checking site - snopes.
i fucking despise communists /pedophiles and anyone who defends them. you know nothing about the relationship between castro and trudeau. castro was a pall bearer at trudeaus funeral...try and find that truth on the net now.
actually you seem really lefty. enjoy this summer. i blame you and all the other tds sufferers.
