These abbreviations are for the Army. The Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard each had its own. I hope this helps.

Thanks, but the U.S. Army only had a Warrant Officer Junior Grade and Chief Warrant Officer during World War II, so these abbreviations are not for WWII ranks.

Sorry for reviving this but did you ever get an answer about this? I had read somewhere; now can't remember where, WO Jr. Grade was abbreviated with WO and Chief Warrant Officer was CWO.

First off, Welcome to the forum Christopher.
Secondly, some posts get overlooked along the way but bringing older posts to current viewers has a tendency to spark interest. Just wait and see what happens now !

Warrant Officer was WO. Warrant Officer Junior Grade was WOJG.

I have seen CWO for for Army Chief Warrant Officer, was this incorrect? Also heard they could be called Mister or Chief.

Yes, 21 August 1941 when the WOJG was authorized by Congress, the official title for the senior rank became Chief Warrant Officer, but it being the U.S. Army the abbreviation WO was retained until postwar in 1947 when the four grades were authorized...with a single WOJG and three levels of CWO.
