Jack -- You really know how to tell a great story! I have to ask . . . did you ever get the mail that induced you to bum a ride on the LCM?

Hello David,

I was able to bring back what mail there was for us on our uneventful return trip across the bay. I headed back aboard one of three early type Higgins boats which were bringing supplies and equipment over in convoy fashion, I was able to get some shut eye on the way back. While ashore I had some luck, and was able to scrounge six or seven dozen new pairs of socks, items like that would keep the spirits up of the fellows that did not get mail that day.

Hello Jeff,

Yes, might sound odd, however, clean dry feet, and spare socks can indeed be quite a treat.

Odd? Not in the least. It just goes to show the deprivations under which you men lived.
