Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
Erich I misread one of your earlier posts. My times are slightly different though. 1.47 Bouxwiller. and 01.57 North Chateau Salins (both in the Lorraine area) and the claims I have 104 and 105, but I suppose one extra claim for such a high amount does not make a big difference. Cheers.

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
I have no confirmed claims for him. Should I have two? If there are they must have been in the Alsace Lorraine area or the Stuutgart suburbs. All NJG5 fighter engaged combat in that zone (Borchers above the target, Lichert, Boy, Resl, Metzger, Drünkler and Hopf all in eastern France)

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
interesting yes he had 2 kills I have nothing for Metzger or Borchers at all, nor Lichert or Resl. Boys claim is marked over Stuttgart. 10 claims for NJG 3 personell including the 2 by Lent...looking at other gruppen claims - all over Stuttgart or over portions of France

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
No surprise here these are claims and some are certainly overclaimed. Besides many of the pilots are "rookies" and claim their first aircraft. it seems like our souces are from two different planets it looks like I'm going to have another headache. If you have confirmed claims I would be interested to read your version. I have these claims from Foreman Matthews and Parry's book.
Uffz Metzer 2/NJG5 ( first claim) Mosquito at Rambervillers 01.25
UFFZ Lichert 2/NJG5 viermot Rambervillers 01.25 (9th claim)
Ogfr Boy 5/NJG5 : Lancaster at Colmar-Breisach. 01.18 (1st claim)
Maj Walter Borchers Stab/NJG5 viermot NW Stuttgart. 01.58 (19th claim)
Uffz Resl 5/NJG5 (first claim) Viermot S. Strasbourg 01.45 (1st claim)
Obstlt Lent viermot near Bouxviller at 01.47 + viermot NR Chateau-salins at 01.57

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
no ofrfesne Skipper but Matthews Parrys book has some grave errors including most of the single engine claims-wrong place, wrong time and wrong pilot.
Borchers did not score on this date and it certainly was not his 19th kill either. his 45th was on July 20/21, 44 and he scored 3 kills on the night of August 29/30th for his: 46-48 victories. I say this with certainty as I am doing a very full length bio on this almost stealth personality, in fact his record is not readily accessible nor is he mentioned in many books or internet nf claims listings. I of course find this almost ridiculous as he was Kommodore of NJG 5 a very successful pilot till his death at the hands of a BC Mossie intruder in March of 1945.

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
No problem Erich , I'm always interested in hearing about other sources too. Besides I like Safaric's list and also use Tony Wood's. Most of all there is a gentleman in Germany who has a huge collection of FB. I noticed on another forum that an other gentleman interested in this list is T.B.
I may ask you a few things about Borchers in the future as in 2006 I have worked on one his Parisians area claims from June 1944 .

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
Oh my, remember last time we had this conversation it was me who had the ice and you the rain, now it's the other way round. Don't worry about the claims, fix your electricity first, I can wait. What time do your have for Raht and Fensch for July 28/29th? I have respectively 00.44 raum EJ and 00.45 EG-FG

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
I have Raht at 00.45hrs and Fensch is not listed at all. I have spoken with Rahts BF A. Heinemann and all his personals were taken at capture as well as pilot and ace Herbert Rauh who scored this night, he told me two GI's came up to him and said strip, grab his personals and that was that, though he did say he wrote things down immediately and looked through archival notes after war when available, did say so much was lost and of course too many eyars afterward the memory was going

I confirm Raht's claim too. One other burning prey however evaded at the last moment.

Re: Oberst Helmut Lent
Erich I sent you the answers about the other airman on a pm so we can focuss on Lent again. Do you think his July 28/29 th abschüsse were those who made him get Brillanten, or was this decided a long time before?
