I am looking for any information about the 247th engineer battalion. My grandfather was in this unit and he has long since passed away and none of my relatives seem to know anything. He may have been attached to the 9th division, but not sure.
thanks,
Nick

Well, I have all kinds of info about the 9th division - studying that specific division is one of my hobbies. Officially, the 15th Engineer Combat Battalion was the only one that was part of the 9th in WWII, but that does not say much - units were always intermingled. If you find out anymore about his attachment to the Ninth division I can help you out a whole lot. Other than that, your internet search is probably as good as mine. Do you know any more info about his service? Where, when, etc?

I know he was all over the place. I have pics of him in Africa, Italy, Paris, Copenhagen, and he end up in Bremerhaven, Germany. He was disscharged in '46. I unfortunatly cannot make out any of the ensignia that would ID the unit, the only thing I know is his ranks. There is a picture of his company, must have been after basic in 42, that has a flag with 247th then a castle looking ensignia then Company A.
I'll post some more info when I get it.
Nick

Default Re: 247th Engineers

My dad was in the 247th, landed on Omaha June 6. They had an annual reunion up until 2 years ago, when everyone got too frail and too few.

One of them showed a paperback book with a lot of info on the 247th. I think Dad has a copy.

I just noticed this thread is 6 years old! But heck, I'm new here. Perhaps the OP is still around.
