Basically I need to know how to find out some information about a relative who flew in the RAF for the polish forces during WW2. I know his name, but that's all I know really, and I'd like to find out what squadron he flew for, what plane/s he flew, when he flew etc. Where can I look for this information? Who can I ask? I would really appreciate your help
Also I am trying to find out some information about a relative who died in WW1 , but i don't think he's any one of the guys listed on the CWG site. What I know of him is he lied about his age so he could go to fight, and died in action. I know his surname, but not his first name. I also know where abouts he was born and lived and who his parents were. Would it be worth going to the PRO to try and find out about him?
Well thanks anyway. First time here, look forward to your replies!!

worthy welcome aboard the forums ! I may be able to help you and so can several others I beleive.
I would suggest visiting Ruy Horta's web-site. punch in his name on your search engine and you should find the TOCH which is the 12 o'clock high discussion board. This is of course the Luftwaffe one, but they also have an Allied forum which is visited by several noteables whom have much information on Polish WW 2 vets and actions. So give it a shot eh ? cannot help with the WW 1 info you request.
Again others on these fine forums will offer suitable suggestions in addition to mine...

worthy, (welcome), you won’t get any individual military info about your W.W.I relative from the PRO and IF the Records Office have his record, your £25 will probably bring you a three line entry. Lots of W.W.I records were destroyed in W.W.II., and, if he lied about his age to enlist he may well have lied about his name too. The CWGC have some fatalities wrongly sited because of this.
You appear to have no date, no regiment and no location? I suggest starting by finding his registered British name and date of birth, ideally verified by a birth certificate. Then you could call the PRO re National Archives to try and find a fuller listing with info about his date and place of death. If somewhere along the line you can establish his regiment, try that regiment’s museum or whatever they have?
Assuming he qualified for one or more medals, W.W.I medals were individually named. In theory there is a record of who got what and somewhere an address of where and to whom the medal was sent?
Whatever, I suggest contacting the PRO National Archives for their advice, giving them every bit of info you have.

Hi Worthy.
For the WWI relative you might try the census site if you know where his parents were living.
http://www.census.pro.gov.uk
They have the 1901 census here which "should" be early enough to list him. Find his parents, and he should be listed alonside them.
Best of luck.
