Cool

Does someone know if these were originally British and Rommel took them from the "loot"?

Yes - somewhere ( and I really can't remember where ! ) I read that Rommel disliked the rather small, standard issue German goggles and quickly 'appropriated' a pair of captured British 'wrap-around' ( ) type goggles.

Yes, Kai! They WERE British!

It was at Mechilli in March or April 1941, when a reconaiissence batallion leaded by colonel Von Schwerin captured the VIII Army general staff, including generals O'Connor, Gott and others. Rommel stole not only the sand glasses, but the British staff vehicles which later became the 'Mamut'...

You're welcome, Kai. For more details like this, see if you can find Erwan Bergott's "Afrika Korps".
