Does anyone know of any good books about the german experience in the North African campaign. I know of Hans Von Luck's book but is there anything else. I am specifically looking for infor on the effect of air power on german troops and their morale.

Dont know about the Air War and all, but (if i can remember correctly - the books are at home) The Rommel Papers are all about the North African Campaign and also include Rommels personaly diary entries and letters and thoughts etc. Theres are another book, the Battle of Al Alamein, and another which i cant think of right now about North Africa.

Two good reads from the German perspective are 'With Rommel In The Desert' by H W Schmidt ( Harrap, 1951 ) and Paul Carell's 'The Foxes Of The Desert' ( Harrap 1960 ).

The air war is only mentioned peripherally but both give a fairly rare German viewpoint.

I've read an Italian book which covers the efforts of a "Guastatori"?? Bn of the Folgore.

Can remember the name of who wrote it, bugger.

While I always have doubts about his accuracy, Paul Carell wrote a book, "Foxes" in the title. He was generally pretty good at portraying the Schutzen point of view and the million and one reasons why Germany failed.
