Can someone confirm this? More details?

--------

On February 7th of 1944, few remaining Panzer IV tanks from the 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking" spearheaded the attempt to breakout from the Cherkassy Pocket against largely superior Soviet force. During the breakout, SS-Untersturmfuehrer Kurt Schumacher commanded two Panzer IVs, which counterattacked a Soviet tank company destroying in the process some 8 T-34 tanks. On the next day, Schumacher alone engaged another Soviet tank company and during both actions destroyed some 21 Soviet AFVs. For his achievement, he was awarded the Knight's Cross.

yes Kai it is on several other web-sites but in the same shorten format. ......

The Pz Abt. was covering the southeast part of Nowo-Buda against all Soviet armored attacks. In the ensueing battle some 15 Russian tanks attacked and two pz IV's of the Abt. destroyed 8 of the Russian tanks.

In another attack Schumacher hismelf and his crew accounted for 7 soviet tanks and also another 3 later in the day.

These are some notes I took back in the early 1980's from the 5th W-SS Wikings divisonal history and obviously there are some gaps and my inforamtion may not be quite on par. If anyone else can enlighten us please ?
