Cool

Read a while ago by a German veteran that it was easy to notice where a US soldier firing a M1 Garand was because the firing created a bigger "smoke cloud" than the German´s. The German veteran thought it had something to do with the powder used.

Just wondering if anyone knows more about this? Was this considered "a problem" by the US troops?

Could it have been because of the higher rate of fire of the M-1 compared to the bolt action K98? Just a thought. Possibly more residue build-up?

Also, recall that when the last shot came out of an M-1 the egection made a fairly loud metallic clanging sound. I have read that some German soldiers learned to wait for this to catch an American rifleman reloading.
