I wonder if anyone can tell me if this man is airborne. If I enlarge the patch on his cap, I doubt that this is an Airborne. It doesn't look like a parachute. I also wonder if he wears jumps boots, but then again, he could be in basic training here....
any thoughts?

Von Poop, good call...hadn't noticed that!
OK, let me rephrase: Is this man part of an airborne unit?

Stevin,
I'm quite sure legs didn't wear any type of patch on their garrison caps. Some aviation cadets wore cloth garrison cap patches. Odds are he was either in a parachute or glider unit.

I tend to think so too, but I can't place the insignia. On the other hand, there was only one man with this name in the Airborne, indeed in all of the US army as I can trace. Now, this particular man on the picture was listed by family/friends as Killed in Africa, but I think he was KIA in Holland. They are also from the same state, so I assume this IS the man I am looking for and the family is mistaken regarding were he was KIA.
Thaks for your input, Col.!

I don't thik you can rule out that it wasn't Airborne insignia. It is extremely hard to distinguish any type of insignia from these old black and white photos. For example, take a look at this photo of K company, 325th GIR:
Their garrison caps look just like his. Plus he has on jump boots and his pants are bloused as a paratrooper's would be. Do you happen to have any other information on this fella?
