I found contradictions in my personal sources about the different variants of P-39, and the engines they carried.

Can someone point me to a reliable source, where I can find what engine was used on the different P39 variants ?

Thanks in advance.

All of them used Allison V-1710 engines. The 1710 is the cubic inches of the engine. There were different sub types of the basic engine and the sub types are the -83 or -85 ect. after the 1710 number.

The engines were also equipped with different types of props. Early ones had Aeroproducts propeller and others had Curtiss props.

The P-63 also used the Allison V-1710 engine but their dash numbers went up to 95 thru 117.

The P-40 series also used the Allison V-1710.

I hope that confuses you for awhile.

PS the P-38 also used the same engine !!

Thanks alot pals , I'll check back to understand the development history and correct what has to be.

I'm doing this to track down what versions were lend leased, in order to complete the thread dedicated to lend leaseed planes on the eastern front.
