Question British pilots and BoB?

In Battlefield series on Battle of Britain

It is mentioned that close to 50% of the British fighter pilots had no battle experience when the BoB started. Anyone know how true this was?

Default Re: British pilots and BoB?

That number sounds like a good estimate since the only place they could have gotton any experience would be the battle of France and that was rather limited.

Why do I feel hungry now ??

Lightbulb Re: British pilots and BoB?

Ta is right...I don't know the exact percentage, but the RAF pilots in the BofB were generally 'green' ; certainly more so than the average Luftwaffe fighter pilot. This is the reason why so many RAF pilots were lost on their first sortie ; trying to fly and fight 'by the book' which was totally outdated.

Pilots who had been 'blooded' over France such as Tuck, Deere, Malan etc were in a different class.
