I'd imagine that stuff is rather hard to come up with. Based on what i know on the subject, it varies by gun/tank, range, HE/AP, what they are firing at, where they hit the target, etc.

Can you clarify what you mean by "killing ratio"? Penetration tables are common & some of them are even accurate. Hit probablility ables o similar info is harder to find & often inaccurate, or usefull only for a narrow aspect.

Perhaps you are refering to something else.

Cant recall any sort of broad or comprehensive studies. There are probablly some done by one army or another that cover specific battles or campaigns or situations. Probablly asking around several of the tank specialized web sites will connect you better to armor experts.

I can note that this question frequentlly comes up for the US Sherman tank vs German tanks. A loss ratio of 4-1 is usually cited. However I've corresponded with a couple of folks who have sifted thru this in detail and of course found it much more complicated. In some battles like Normady the Allies lost a much higher ratio of Shermans to German tanks. But when the losses are compared as precentages of the totals the ratio drops due to the Allies having a lot more tanks. When the cases of the Allied tanks in the attack are taken the loss ratio goes very high, but when the Germans are in the attack the ratio favors the Allies. Another thing that changes the comparison is if tanks lost to other weapons, like the Panzerfaust or Bazooka are subtracted from the count and oly tanks destroyed by other tanks are counted.

Anothe statistical problem is in the unit reports of losses. ie: a report made the day of the battle usually covers all the tanks made inoperable as casualties. But a monthly summary made by a unit will show a different number as it is likely to drop the tanks salvaged & repaired from the lost count.

My point here is the ratio can vary widely for a situation depending on how the count was made. A lot of folks toss numbers out without understanding what they actually cover.

Any specific reason for your question?
