Question JG 26 and Arnhem

Sorry did not find this info by search function in the Forums.

Gerhard Vogt
Oberleutnant

...achieved his 40th victory on 21 September, over Nijmegen when JG 26 intercepted paratroop-carrying C-47s heading for Arnhem.

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Gerhard Vogt

In JG 26 photographic history by Donald L. Caldwell it is mentioned that JG 26 made the only successful Luftwaffe attack on the allied air forces during Market Garden and downed some twenty RAF transports. The date 21 September? More details anyone? Thanx!

This may well be Sept 21st. I was the last attempt to land paratroopers (other dates were planned but cancelled) . The C-47s were parachuting the Polish 1st brigade and several aircrafts were lost. Jg26 was involved , however I don't know how many aircrafts were claimed. You could check Tony woods or the Safaric loss lists.

Default Re: JG 26 and Arnhem

On the 21st the following squadrons lost Dakotas:

46 Group:
48 Squadron - 3 aircraft
233 Squadron - 2 aircraft
271 Squadron - 3 aircraft (of which 1 was not Market Garden)
437 Squadron - 2 aircraft

I'll try to find causes a little later
