My visit to Bavaria
Hi Guys
This is my first post on this forum and glad I've found it, look like its full of great stuff.
Right I'll get to the point, later this month (the 19th-22nd of october I believe) I'm going to Germany for the first time and just wanted to know what to look at whilst I'm there (anything rare/special people have found etc) and if possible the locations/addresses etc.
I'll be staying in a town called Frielassing in the very south of Bavaria most of the time as this is where my friend lives, but will also be going to Munich for 3 days, so anything near those areas (sure theres plenty), so far I've got:
Berchtesgaden
Castle of the Eagle
Dachau
Sights in Munich
so not many, I know theres plenty of stuff in Bavaria (im completing 2nd year of A-Level history) but its more the actual addresses/locations I'm after so I know where to go. Looking forward to it as so far I've only been to Auschwitz/Birkenau (twice) and a load of WW1 stuff in France so this should be interesting.
Any advice greatly appriciated,
Dave

Re: My visit to Bavaria
A good start is to get hold of a copy of 'After The Battle' #9 ( 'Obersalzburg' ) which gives a brilliant overview of the sites at Berchtesgaden. The area is sadly changed a bit from the '70s when ATB produced the article, but it will show you exactly where everything was.
They have also covered Munich in another issue, but I don't have the number to hand....
Another interesting site to browse is Third Reich in Ruins....

Happy hunting !

Hey Dave!
Don't forget a visit to Bavaria Filmstadt: Bavaria Filmstadt Geiselgasteig- The Bavaria Filmstadt (Film City) to the south of Munich makes it possible. ... Thanks to a large screen projection live-view of the Marienhof studio guests ..
.....If I come with you, I visit the www.dasboot.com zone.

Re: My visit to Bavaria
my suggestion is to go to Berchestgaden and then Königsee to scoop up alot of the culture and have many a bier the Eagles nest is nothing like what it was , mostly commercial with food, but the view is incredible.....
museums are the best bet in München besides the Bier.
since your friend is way south a nice road trip into Austria should also be of priority especially if the weather is good.
forget Dachau unless you want to get depressed but the charming little town is a real gem

Re: My visit to Bavaria
Thanks very much for the info guys, much appriciated.
Martin Bull, is it possible to get After The Battle #9 on the internet i.e. in the form of a PDF or do I have to buy the magazine?
Cheers
