Was the American Naval Ace Stanley Vejtasa ever nominated for the Medal of Honor for shooting down 7 Japanese planes in a single mission in the naval carriers battles off Guadacanel in October 1942? This was six months before US Marine Corp ace Jame Swett shot down the same number of enemy aircraft in April 1943, and he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Officially credited with 10 1/4 victories, his decorations and awards include three Navy Crosses, two Bronze Stars, a Legion of Merit, a Meritorious Service Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal. Captain Vejtasa was elected into the Carrier Aviation Hall of Fame in 1987

I appreciate your reply; however, it did not answer the question of whether anyone in the Navy thought about nominating Stanley Vejtasa for a Medal of Honor considering the fact that shooting down 7 planes in one mission by an American pilot was a new record which beat Butch O'Hare's records of five planes destroy in one mission and that James Swett, Marine Corp Ace, was given given a Medal of Honor six months later for seven kills.

I can't answer that question. Have done any searching for him?
