Default When Dragons Flew

Can anyone help with the location of the photo used at the bottom of page 176 of this book, the caption says it is of prisoners being marched into Arnhem on the 26/9/44.....

I've looked to see if this photo is used in the After the Battle books but without success and to me it has more of a look of fighting around the hospital from the 19/9/44......Anyone got any thoughts?

BTW there is a copy of this excellent but hard to find book on eBay today (6/2/08) with a reserve of £75......

I've looked through my books - as you probably have, too - and can't find anything which matches ( this one may well need its own little 'battlefield tour' to match up ).

Certainly, the buildings in the background have the feel of the upper road ( what's it called ? Bovenover...? ) near where the Utrechtseweg splits into two. There's also the appearance of a slight gradient which would also fit ( or that may just be the way the camera was held ).

As to the date - the attitude of the men seems to give the impression that 'everything's over' but that I admit is me being subjective......

Martin,
That's what I thoughtas perhaps there are also tramlines in the photo.....the background does sort of scream the multi storied buildings around the Museum for the South Staffs than houses of Oosterbeek.....

Yes, having walked along that road myself, it looks to be nearer the Museum area - the road surface seems to match the a photo on p.85 of Waddy's 'Tour Of The Battlefields' but then there were other roads with the same type of surface.....

As you say, the Museum actions occurred on the 19th .....

I've spoken with a couple of people at the Museum in Oosterbeek and they feel it is a 'private' photo which must have been taken by a German soldier...this probably accounts for its non-use in the ATB book.....they do agree with me in that it has the look of a 'Museum area' photo from the 19th......

More investigation required!
