Nazi medal sells for $18k at Brisbane auction
Nov 18, 2007
A man has paid $18,000 for a World War II Nazi medal at a charity auction in Brisbane today.
Only 150 of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords were awarded to German officers during World War II.
Buyer Clive Palmer says he does not believe the $18,000 price tag is excessive.
"I don't believe it is a lot of money because it's equivalent to the VC in our award history and the VC will sell for over half a million dollars," he said.
"Certainly in Germany there was only 150 awarded of the 170 that were made.
"Of those about 50 per cent were lost in the aftermath of World War II so it's a very rare medal and it's good to find it in Brisbane."
