"It wasn't only for Deutschland" -Hitler
I'm pretty sure he said this cause The Downfall is really accurate, he told this to Mohnke. What do you think he meant?

Re: "It wasn't only for Deutschland" -Hitler
In his twisted logic he must have thought he was saving the entire Western civilization (Britain, France, US included) against what he thought was Jewish-Bolshevik decadence and savagery.
The war in the West, however horrifying it surely was in reality, was much more of a 'gentlemans' war than in Russia, where he did not wage war with the aim to conquer, but to eradicate.....

Re: "It wasn't only for Deutschland" -Hitler
eradicate means what it means, pretty clear to me...
but if you insist:
basically empty the Russian steppe of Untermenschen (jews, peasants, communists, he wasn't picky ) so that the Aryans could have their Lebensraum. Ok some could be left behind to be slaves for the Germans

Re: "It wasn't only for Deutschland" -Hitler
something just occurred to me, Hitler didn't know America/Great Britain were allied with the Soviet Union so he probably said that because he knew he tried to eradicate the Bolshevik threat from taking Europe. -which they ended up doing, well half of it anyway.

Downfall/Der Untergang is a film.
Why not try and work with genuine Hitler Quotes, or commentary from those that knew him rather than speculate on one from a dramatisation.
It's like studying Richard Harris for an insight into Cromwell...
Cheers,
Adam.

Re: "It wasn't only for Deutschland" -Hitler
In my honest opinion.
I specialize myself in German History. But I'm not sure if he really did say that or why he said it.
But If you want me to say something:
I think he ment that it wasn't only "Für Deutschland" but for all who were 100% Aryan and the National-Socialists in the other countries.
Not including the Muslims! They were in the Waffen-SS too but they just were Cannonmeat '"Kanonnenvlees".
For all German speakers and for all the people who thought just the same "Deutschland über alles".

Leon Degrelle is one of the most famous Waffen SS soldiers. After joining as a private he earned all stripes from corporal to general for exceptional bravery in combat. He engaged in seventy-five hand-to-hand combat actions. He was wounded on numerous occasions. He was the recipient of the highest honors: The Ritterkreuz, the Oak-Leaves, the Gold German Cross and numerous other decorations for outstanding valor under enemy fire. One of the last to fight on the Eastern Front, Leon Degrelle escaped unconditional surrender by flying some 1500 miles across Europe toward Spain. He managed to survive constant fire all along the way and crash landed on the beach of San Sebastian in Spain, critically wounded.

This is it.

This is what I enjoy with the forum. Quality!
Where else can you discuss the "between the lines" of half a quote from a movie of a historical figure.

Shouldn't we forget about this thread? In any case the originator went 'cold' already
