1st Yorkshire Parachute Regiment - need Info
G'day
my grandfather was part of the 1st Yorkshire Parachute Regiment which I am told is part of the 6th Airborne Divison (Red Berets). I have his pegasus shoulder flash and a couple of ariborne wings(1 steel, 1 cloth) and am just looking for any information on this regiment. This all the information I have, I know it is not much but it is all that I have and can find. I was hoping that someone would some kind of information as to:
Were they active in ww2
if so where did they fight
the rest of the formation info. if there is any.
any information would be great because it'll be more then I have.

Do you mean 12th (Yorskhire) Battalion Parachute Regiment?
I don't think there was 1st Yorkshire one.
Have you seen this site?

Do you have any idea of Grandad's Army number?
It'll tell who he first joined up with.
I'm wondering if joined a Yorkshire regiment & then transferred to the Paras & your family history has muddled it slighty, things like that can often happen.
Here is a list of Para Battalions, no such unit as 1st Yorkshire.

Well I only know he was apart of the red berets because of the pegasus shoulder flash and I know it was yorkshire because I also have some more pieces of cloth (that look like they go over the shoulder straps) that say yorkshire on it.

so yes and that means whoever told me the 1st was wrong, it was either the 2nd or the 12th
