Default Prüm, Germany. Feburary 1945

This time last week I was in Prum for the day.
Thanks to Jeff, (slipdigit) I now know the US 4th Infantry Division was fighting there.
I see in After The Battle magazine issue 46 there is an article called The Drive on Prum.
Has anyone got it? Is there a "then" picture to go with my now photo?
Any more info on the fighting at Prum would be good.
Any maps?

Red face Re: Prüm, Germany. Feburary 1945

I've got ATB's 'The Drive On Prum' - I'll try to dig it out of my huge, disorganized magazine pile later.......

Cheers Martin, not to worry though, Croonaert came up trumps on ww2talk.
Thanks for offering anyway.
I'd thought a man like yourself would have them all in bound volumes.

Too tight-fisted ! They're all in one gigantic pile, and the one I want is always at the bottom.....

Thumbs up Re: Prüm, Germany. Feburary 1945

That's a superb 'Then & Now', Owen - even the weather looks right....

Almost same date too, I took the now photo on 20th Feb, I read that Prum was taken on Feb 11th. Only 63 years and 9 days between photos.

Lone Sentry: Famous Fourth: The Story of the 4th Infantry Division -- WWII G.I. Stories Booklet

DOUBLE Deucers drove through snow, rain, and mud, deeper and deeper into the Rhineland. Germans fought and fell back from village to village; nowhere did they stand more than a day. On Feb. 9, the 8th crossed the Prum River. Two days later, the 22nd took Prum.

Great thread. My grandfather passed away on 3/17/08. I received a box of his papers & medals from the war. He served with the 4th Div., 12th infantry, G Company. He was there for the taking of Prum. He received his first bronze star for dragging a wounded man for 3 hours from cover to cover while being mortared and machine gunned trying to get him back behind the line. that was on 4 March 45 near Rommerstein (just east of Prum). I am lucky he saved everything including a beautiful book about 4th Div from D-day till home including all the mens pics like a school year book.

If anyone has more photos from the area around Prum please post them for me.
