Question Infantry on tanks and carbon monoxide

Just read that it was possible for the troops travelling on the engine decks of tanks to have carbon monoxide poisoning- just a mention in one book.

Anyone know of such incidents mentioned? I have not heard of these previously.

I haven't read any specific instances, Kai, but I can imagine such a thing happening. It certainly was a factor in aircraft eg the early Typhoons, in which pilots were overcome by exhaust fumes.

Default Re: Infantry on tanks and carbon monoxide

I was expecting a thread on 'tanks and carbon emitions,' something about calculating the carbon footprint of a panzer division and paying a stealth tax on it

Kai, it sounds feasible however remember that the exhaust fumes were rarely pumped straight out onto the engine deck, more often they pipes vented right at the back and so as long as you got reasonable air movement across the decks I can't see it being a problem. If the tank were in a hanger or confined space however, I can see there being issues.
