Re: Dresden, Germany
Whew....I thought you were going to want to discuss why it was bombed and that subject has been talked to death here.
I don't know why it is called that. Probably one of the Rogues here knows.
Welcome, btw.

Re: Dresden, Germany
"With a pleasant location and a mild climate on the Elbe, as well as Baroque-style architecture and numerous world-renowned museums and art collections, Dresden has been called "Elbflorenz" (Florence of the Elbe)."

Re: Dresden, Germany
it is because of the Baroque architecture of the time and who was Prinz during those very interesting and flamboyant days, Dresden was a principality unto itself for many years in Saxony, opulence to the extreme and the city showed it in a masterful way through it's buildings including close at hand Meissen. The locals are doing a beautiful job of rendering the buildings as they once were pre-war

Re: Dresden, Germany
Sadly, it's really only one tiny corner of palaces and churches which are being (wonderfully) restored.
The rest of the city is sadly beyond hope, having been covered in the intervening years with stolid East-Bloc architecture.
