Default Help With School Project

Hello everybody, i have to do a school project interviewing a World War II veteran. I would just have to ask some questions in general about your experience in World War II. If you would be willing to help me with my school project please email me at xnbp2x@yahoo.com. Or if you have aim please message me at xnbp2x. I would have had to heard from you by the latest March 30, 2008 so please respond to me as soon as possible. Thank you

You have a tight schedule dan02. Here is an interview I conducted with a WWII Veteran here on the Forums. There is probably some solid info there for you:

Sword Beach to Bremen., A Veterans tale. Sapper

Good luck!

I don't have any single Veteran's account in full detail, although I would like to interview some someday.

Here's a few short stories from WWII that I collected from books:

I: R.C. Anderson, Forward Artillery Observer, Canadian Army, WWII

"I can confirm many infantrymen never fired their weapons. I used to kid them that we fired a hell of a lot more 25-pounder shells than they did rifle bullets. In one position...we came under fire from an olive grove to our flank. Everyone dived for cover. I was not occupied, at that moment, on my radio, so, seeing a Bren, I grabbed it and fired off a couple of magazines. The Bren gun's owner crawled over to me, swearing, 'You don't have to clean the son of a bitch.' He was really mad."
(p.xiv, "Introduction to the Paperback Edition," from Grossman's On Killing)

II: Col. Albert J. Brown, Platoon Leader, US Army, WWII

"Squad leaders and platoon sergeants had to move up and down the firing line kicking men to get them to fire. We felt like we were doing good to get two or three men out of a squad to fire."
(p.xiv, "Introduction to the Paperback Edition," from Grossman's On Killing)

VII: John Masters, Indian Army, Burma, WWII

“The No. 1 was 17 years old – I knew him. His No. 2 lay on the the left side, beside him, head toward the enemy, a loaded magazine in his hand ready to whip it onto the gun the moment the No. 1 said, “Change!” The No. 1 Started firing, and a Japanese machine gun engaged them at close range. The No. 1 got the first burst through the face and neck, which killed him instantly. But he did not die where he lay, venid the gun. He rolled over to the right, away from the gun, his left hand coming up in death to tap his No. 2 on the shoulder in the signal that means “take over.” The No. 2 did not hve to push the corpse away from the gun. It was already clear.”
(p.18, “Nonfirers Throughout History,” quoted in Grossman’s On Killing, from Master’s The Road Past Mandalay)

Not much to write a paper about, just a few accounts of battle to share with you.

I may have more later, if you're intrested

Wish you had more time, I could have gotten in contact with a Col. from the 6th armored for you. Here is his website if you want to try and reach him. If you do decide to contact him, let me know, and I'll tell him to look for your message. He is a very good friend of mine.

Well I hope that works out for you!
If not, the "Sapper" thread is a great one as is this one,

HOLLANDIA (JAYAPURA) in 1944

Good luck with your report, and I hope that you and your friends will come here often and visit us! I have learned much from the forum, and hope you will too!
