I have a Stalingrad prosject!
Hi, I am a 15 year old boy from Oslo, Norway who is atm doing a ww2 project. My question to answer for the projekt is: Why did the germans get defeted at Stalingrad, and what had this to say for the final result of the war. I have tried wikipedia and stuff, but I want real stuff. Have bought DVD's etc.
I got some questions:
1.Why did Hitler attack the small city of Stalingrad, when he could choose between the bigger city's like Moscow and Leningrad?
2.Does anyone have a link of a map which shows the front in 1942, when the germans are outside Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad. And also a map after the defeat of Stalingrad and the big offensive from russia to re-capture their land?
EDIT WITH MORE QUESTIONS WILL COME, SO STAY TUNED
Thx before hand

HenrikB!
We have discussed this on several occasions. If you just use the search function and try Stalingrad youŽll get alot of threads to read.

Re: I have a Stalingrad prosject!
Henrik, do as they said above, look for the Search feature and look up Stalingrad. We have already discussed this a lot, so there is very much information on the forum already, you only have to look for it.
You can also google up for "Stalingrad" and "Operation Uranus".
Stalingrad was not in itself an objective, and it was not by any means a small town as you say. In Norwegian terms it was actually much bigger than several of your towns put together.
Stalingrad initially was important because it was by the Volga, and taking St. would allow cutting off the Volga traffic, as well as providing flank cover for the Army Group going southward towards the Caucasus. As time went on it acquired an importance of it's own.
But really do a search and read what we have already written.
