Default Cap badges

Hi,
I have some cap badges and have been looking around the internet to find out more. Most are in good shape but one has a mark on the back " W Scully Ltd ", my question is how to tell if there are real originals or reproductions. Could not find any info on this subject or name of a book on this subject. Any help will be greatly appreciated , since I'm doing a research on my Grampa (WW1) and Fathers (WW2- England 1941-45) military service background. Thanks Jim
