Hard to tell. Bohdan is a slave first name. There is a large company called Bohdan Bolzano 15km north of Prague in a town called Kladno. they have a pdf in German, but they should speak English too. I don't now whethe rthis is referrring to a name or a place though.
Novinky.
Second hint it would likely be in the slave part of the Czech Republic (not the Sudeten) or possibly Slovaquia, or even Ruthenia which is now in Ukraine. This could explain the name change too.

I was also only able to find a Bohdan reference in the Ukraine. Is it possible that your mother was born there and that your family records might have become a bit confused about the location?

On a google map it shows that Bohdan is in a corner of the Ukraine which borders on the south-eastern edge of Slovakia.

Did some more searching. It appears that the boundaries between Slovakia and what is now Ukraine were somewhat tortured and lands at various times belonged to opposing sides. Quite possibly the town in Ukraine was part of Slovakia at the time of your mother's birth. There is a little more info about the area at the following two URLs. Good luck in your search.

Sylvia

In the aftermath of World War I and the Russian Revolution of 1917, most of the Ukrainian region became a republic of the Soviet Union, though parts of western Ukraine were divided between Poland, Romania, and Czechoslovakia. Ukraine suffered a severe famine in 1932 – 33 under Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Overrun by Axis armies in 1941 during World War II, it was further devastated before being retaken by the Soviets in 1944. By the end of the war, the borders of the Ukrainian S.S.R. had been redrawn to include the western Ukrainian territories.
